Or prevent the litter that is thrown everywhere?

NOTE: I have an automatic litterbox so he's not rolling in a dirty box.

He's already neutered, declawed, and he has no fleas.

Cats are odd fuzzy people at times. Mine does that occasionally too. Litterboxes that are "clean" still have odor to them and they actually like that odor. AND the litter has a soft, sand like feeling to them. You really cant prevent this. As for the litter that is thrown everywhere, well, get a covered cat box. I dont like the automatics myself because they dont do as good a job as a human does. The covered cat boxes catch about 95% of the thrown mess.

Good luck

Rather than preventing him from rolling in the box - I don't think you're going to be able to do that without deterring him from the box completely- just get a cover for your box. That way the litter will be contained to the box. I've had a littermaid and now have a purrforma, they both have covers/tents as optional accessories. good luck!

Some very young cats go through a phase like this - rolling, sitting, laying doen in their litter box. Unlike us, cats do not necessarily find the odor of their own feces or urine offesive. For stressed young cats, the familiar odor actually seems to comfort them. But cats usually grow out of the silly habit as they mature and as the instinct to keep fastiduously clean takes over. Help kitty along by simply picking him up from the litter box whenever you see him laying down in it. The playing with the kitty litter will also lose its appeal as the cat matures.

My kitten used to lay down and play with the litter too. It lasted about a month and then he stopped. Your kitty will too, don't worry.

My cat sits for ages digging in her littler tray flicking sand everywhere and dragging stuff from the floor into the box. I just vaccuum every day.

Other than that, i dont know what you could do??

Never heard of an automatic litterbox

Is he neutered? If not get him neutered, that should do it. If he is neutered, put some baking soda in the litter box. I bet that will stop him. Baking soda is perfectly safe. I have an automatic litterbox and I put baking soda in it everyday. None of my cats roll in the litterbox and I have alot of cats. All my cats are neutered and spayed. Good luck.

cats love to roll around in dirt to bathe themselves, yes i said bathe. other animals do this and cats do it because they don't like water. try taking it out more often where it can roll around in grass and dirt or go to the pet store and by the bathing sand they sell for chinchillas and put some in a plastic container or box it can get into and roll around

Probably to mark his or her territory. Put a towel under the box(a big one) and that will keep it so that all you have to do is pick up the towel and dump the pellets in the trash. to prevent, get a spray bottle and squirt it and say 'no' real stern

Buy a scratching post, or look into flea treatment.

Can you return the cat?

If not, try bathing the cat in tepid water and see if that helps.
