In the 1970's kids were expected to do their own homework and research. They used these things called books. The teacher utilized TV, movies, filmstrips, slides, guest speakers instead of VCR's or computers. Drugs were not as prevalent in the high school range and neither was the gang violence. College had the protests, more drugs, and anti-war riots happening. Computers were just starting to hit business and the subject was becoming a favorite at the college level. The 70's were the Hippie Era (more or less)

We watched PBS in Kindergarten and we would have to wait until the exact time that the educational kid shows were on and actually watched it live off the tv. PBS was different than it was now. It had no commercials, like it does now. There was cheesy music and a timer telling you what show was on next and how many seconds until it starts. Weird huh?
When nothing was on on PBS we would watch educational filmstrips or sometimes slides. I think it was the early eighties when the vcr was available to watch movies. Then the teacher could never get the stupid thing to work right half the time because it was so new to them.
Oh yeah! There were no cell phones, computers, electronic portable games, ipods or cd players anywhere ever, and nobody was talking about gangs or guns.
We did talk about sex and drugs when we got into junior high and highschool but that was the late eighties and early nineties in my case.

typewriters, both manual and electric, overhead projectors, we used to get to watch the Apollo space program launch and land, Pres. Carter had the surplus peanut program in the lunch room, they put peanuts on everything! There never was the drug and weapons problem like now. Our parents couldn't log on to a computer and look at our grades. A lot of things have changed, some for the better. Thanks for making me remember my good old days. I was class of '79

And we did not have time off every month like they do now. We were there to learn!! And our Parent Teacher conferences were after school, not during school times. and there was no violence in the schools either.
