If i were to purchase the car, I would fly their and test it out and stuff. All I need to know is if its going to be a good car.

Personally I wouldn't buy it. Nothing against VW Beetles, I own two!! The scratches would be a concern for me, but if you are planning on painting then I see they aren't a concern for you. My 2001 Beetle has never broken now, the only thing I have had done to it other than regular maintenance is replacing a knob in the dash. I also think $9000. for a 2002 Beetle with 103k miles on it is a little much... I would maybe shop around for a little whole longer, it doesn;t sound like such a good deal for me.
But ultimately, it's up to you.
But there is my two cents:)
Good luck, and happy beetle shopping!!

Speaking from a mechanics point of view, the VW Beetle is a great car. I have worked on a few but for the most part, have found them very reliable. The downside to VW's are the price of parts....many parts are fairly expensive; however, the up side is that generally VW's last a long time. Just keep a maintenance schedule and stay to it.

I can't say about buying it online. But I just bought a 2007 beetle and absolutely love the car itself. The only bad things I can think of is there is absolutely no trunk space (i can fit 2 suitcases in mine) and the light leather gets dirty quickly.

That is a lot of mileage, but it is a manual so it's probably no as big a deal as if it were an auto. Also, I would consider taking a mechanic you trust with you when you look at it...

You got to talk to other owners with the same model year (the new beetle). It hasn't got a long enough history to give you a good evaluation. I would think all manufacturers are trying to make reliable trouble free cars. I would wonder about any car being sold on an auction.(eBay)

Up to you. Frankly I wouldn't even consider buying a car I couldn't see in person and test drive, and see the title to be sure it's clear.

Added: VIN shows it as an 02 model, made in Mexico. High miles for 5 year old car I'd say. That's over20,000 a year, or about 1700 a month

It looks cute but looks can be deceiving.
I probably wouldn't risk it. You need to be able to see, drive and have your mechanic go over the car before you can purchase it. The expense of flying there and back if you don't purchase it kind of out way the bargain price.
I'd probably look a little closer to home.
VW's have a good reputation of being a sturdy life lasting car but I don't know about the newer models.
Obviously it's your choice but don't be to spontaneous.

DO NOT buy a VW beetle. We have a new one and it ALWAYS breaks down just in time for Christmas. The bumpers are really weak and can fall off. And the crappy thing is they can only be fixed in VW dealerships for twice the price of a regular car mechanic. These cars do not last! My dad really wants to sell it but now we've lost to much on it to make a profit off of it.

Two problems. Why was the timing belt replaced at 100,000 miles. I dont know enough about V W's to tell if this is normal. Second the car is from the east coast. Rust may be a problem.

Do not I repeat DO NOT buy it sight unseen. Have it put up on a lift and drive it. If they won't let you take it to a third party mechanic and have it checked out DO NOT BUY IT.

Kelly Blue book sez this one would go for 13K from a dealer, so the price is OK, But be smart - buy a honda. Consumer Reports indicates that VW's in general require too much maintenance. Honda holds it's resale much better as well.
