Only the Bible taught there was nothing holding up the Earth. Greco-Roman Pagan relgions foolishly believed a big dude named Atlas held it up. One day he got tired, told Hercules to hold for a while. When he did, he basically said "Thanks, sucker!" and walked away. So, Hercules pulled the same trick on Titan.

It wasn't until some 1500 years later that Copernicus proved the Bible right...that nothing holds the earth up. Even then, some people still couldn't believe it!

There are many many instances in the Bible where God speaks to an individual, giving them information for their own benefit or to simply tell to others.
