Oh sh1t yeah. When I crack someones head, my knuckles break 20% of the time. Boxing gloves ONLY protect the knuckles. Punches are not cushioned by gloves, it actually allows a puncher to punch more punches w/o hurting the hands. Making a puncher more dangerous.

Absolutely, when you are punching barefist, damaging the skin is most pathetic thing to worry about, it's just skin, it will grow back. Damaging your wrist is the most likely thing when hitting a bag, that's what wraps are for, they are not a fancy covering for your knuckles, your knuckles are merely an anchor for the support of your wrist, a strong wrist also makes for a much stronger punch, so you do need to strengthen your wrists, but punchings things is not the way to do it. Hitting a bag without gloves can do permanent damage to your knuckles, over time they seem to get stronger, then they just deteriorate, hands are delicate. If you are punching a person, hit them in softer spots with your fist where they will break instead. But yes, punching barefist is not an overly good idea, so make sure you protect your wrists and knuckles with wraps and gloves.

yes it can be quite damaging, especially hitting something hard. That is why a lot of street fights end up in broken knuckles and wrists, as well as broken jaws. It is advisable to wrap hands correctly and wear gloves, both take the shock off the wrists and save the knuckles from being skinned or broken.

Yeah it is, I used to punch the bag with no wraps or gloves and my knuckles began to peel and the skin got tougher but if you punched something hard like a jaw or chin you could break a wrist. Think about it, it's bone hitting bone.

Definitely. Learn how to wrap or wear training gloves, around 14 ounce. when you punch align your fist and arm without any bending or you will break your wrist.
