Maurice, have you ever considered how different these parables and allusions would have been if Jesus were born in a colder climate, where Fire meant survival?
And by the way, have you ever seen precious metals in fire. They are hot and molten and tarnished. At least wood, hay, and stubble has the decency to warn you that they are hot by actually being on fire.
So I don't know how to answer your question. But I think it's important we know that we really don't know the answer. At least that's my answer.

How many questions do you think god will be asking you? What, have you done everything the book says? Why didn't you sell your children into slavery or kill anyone in the name of god? I'm sure he'll want to know that too, right? Or are you just hoping he'll ignore those parts of the bible?
