I can only speak for myself. I relapsed several times and went through rehab twice before I finally got it. Each time I spent a while away from it, it seemed like i had to try it one more time just to remind myself why it made me so miserable. It started when I was 18 and I am now 31. I started trying to quit when I was 22. It has been a long hard miserable road to where i am now. There are effects that I will carry for the rest of my life. I am a better person for going through what i did, and I had no one to blame but myself and genetics. I also depended on "Antabuse" pills for about a year untill I got pregnant. Once I was pregnant, I didn't have any problem. Now I am sober and happy, but I know in my heart that i will never really be out of the woods. For me it meant finding something more important than the alcohol. By doing that, I found out how important i am. How much I can love and be loved. Good luck and God bless.

I relapsed after 3 years and it was about the same as before. Alcohol takes away much of our desire to manage anything. I haven't had any for at least 6mths now. It has been a very good 6 mths.

Remember this....... When you drink from a bottle it is drinking from you ( your soul )
Deal with the memories and mistakes you are trying to drown out and it loses it's grip .... No matter how many times you fail...as long as you keep on fighting it...You and not it are winning...for every drink you don't take...is atleast one it did not take from you...it's like a fat person on a diet...you will have to fight it forever or lose it all...
I fail 3 or 4 times a year.... that leaves 361 where I didn't......
Be positive...into every life a little rain must fall...pick yourself up...dust yourself off...and start all over again...every time...good luck ... wow a whole year....let's see how far I can make this time..... If it's only once or twice a year....that's not really a problem...If you give up fighting...then you have truly lost...

My ex-husband did, and for him it did get worse, he felt more like he could handle it better, But? it was no means that way. it's all up to you, and how you can cope. For him he lost his whole family and our home, the works after 18 years of marriage. and he is as big if not bigger alcoholic now. To him he accepts it outside, inside he is torn-up. it's all up to you, and the damage and losses you will have, is it worth that? Good Lick and God Bless you?

I haven't, but have taken care of those who have. Falling off the wagon after a year of sobriety hurts when you hit the ground...but that doesn't mean you can't clean up your act again...it takes perserverance, determination and lots of professinal help. You also have to ask yourself what happened at the point you took your first drink...were you stressed...depressed...there is a symptom you took the drink to get rid of.
