Should the Catholic Church in UK be exempted from the new anti-discrimination in goods and services legislation soon to be introduced so that it's Catholic run adoption agencies can continue to discriminate against and turn away gay couples who wish to adopt.
(gays have been able to adopt in UK for some years already so gay adoption is not the issue here, discrimination is the issue.)

These Catholic adoption agencies are state-funded not privately funded.

I beleive they would be legally exempt in the US but I'm not too up on UK law, sorry.

I beleive that no law should force a church to do something against its beliefs. If gay marriage were legal, churches that thought it sinful should certainly be allowed to not marry those couple. So I guess an adoption agency that thinks homosexuality is a sin should also be allowed to decline as well.

I certainly do not believe in religious' run adoption agencies but I also assume that the catholic church does not believe that "gay couples" should be together so I would say they have their own right in that society as to how to run that agency. I am not a catholic, I am a Non-denominational Christian and will so remain. Have a great week.

If gay couples are able to adopt a child through other agencies, I don't see why a private, religious agency shouldn't be able to set their own eligibility criteria. I'm a lesbian and generally always favor anything that furthers gay rights, but there has to be a balance with freedom of religion.
