Many people do regard others who have many visible tattoos and piercings as a rebel or somehow inferior. There is a very bad stereotype about all those who chose the route of body modification. Like they're stupid and dropped out of high school.
I think it is very unfortunate but I'm very proud of my fellow body modificators who succeed and prove all those idiots wrong.
I myself am a junior in college getting 4 degrees (two majors and two minors) and have 13 piercings and 3 tattoos. I was also 3rd in my high school class. So boo-ya

No, definately not. I have several piercings and plans for tattoos and yet I have high goals for myself. I've had several teachers that have piercings and tattoos and get jobs anyway. Choices with your own body should not hold you back from working in a certain job as long as you can and are willing to cover them up while on the job. If you want to have them you should be willing to moderately conform for the sake of a job. I'm not saying remove them just use a tattoo covering foundation during the day and put a clean plug in if you cannot take the piercing out. Work around it and you will get a job that is worth it. It is illegal to deny a job based on a discrimination, equal rights to all. So no, if you are deserving of the job you should get it despite tattoos and piercings.

ABSOLUTELY NOT! It doesn't matter whether you have tattoos and/or piercings or not you can still get s good paying job; professional or otherwise. Most places do prefer that tattoos are covered just out of courtesy and piercings either covered or taken out for the same reason. And no people with tattoos and/or piercings aren't always treated as less of a person. As long as you do your job right and good then you won't have a problem!

It is sort of true. As an interviewer, I would be skeptical of people with obvious piercings and tattoos because it hints that they are too individualist and not team players which is needed for a company to function harmoniously.
*UPDATE BELOW*
Because the asker had concerns about my answer. Let me state that on a personal level, I have nothing against people with tattoos or piercings. They look great. My point of view is from a white collar job standpoint.
As a whole, taking all career paths into perspective, I do not think people piercings or tatts or less or more likely to succeed. Some are millionaires like Dennis Rodman and all of Motley Crue.
I mean I bet if I, a person with no tattoos interviewed at a job at a tattoo parlor, I doubt the chances of me being hired would be high.

I have a tongue ring, nose ring, monroe, industrial (along with 9 other "regular" ear piercings) and I work in the accounting department of a large corporate office...I have to say that it is all about how you present yourself. I've never interviewed with anyone that had a problem with my piercings, then again, I've never been a waitress, bank teller, real estate agent or anything that deals with direct customer contact (out of personal preference). I wear business suits to work and no one thinks twice about all the metal I have in my head. LMAO I also have 4 tattoos but none of them are visible when I wear my work attire. It's sad that society today does judge people with tattoos and piercings. I'm 22 and I think when our generation is the generation sitting behind the presidents desk in a corporate office piercings/tattoos won't matter as much as they do today.

Well unfortunatley this is kinda true...SAD, but in business it could hinder someone from getting the job or a promotion. I think it is just plain stupid! I actually know many people who have tattooes/peircings and are very successful and smart! I think if we can just educate people about not judging by looks, we'd be in a better situation. Well I guess if you look more to the future, maybe this stereo type will slowly disapear... more people are getting tattoos and plus when our generation becomes the bosses...we won't have to worry about that crap!

I have piercings (Yes, more than just my ears, of course) and I'm getting a tattoo soon, but I know I won't have any trouble in succeeding. I mean, yeah, someone with piercing in their lip, nose, and/or tongue, with maybe arms covered in tattoos, etc probably will have a hard time finding a job. But, duh. Come on now. Just don't get it in visible places---why would you anyway? Piercings (Except ears) are meant to be private. I have my nipples done, my ears, and I'm getting my ankle and should pierced too soon.

i wouldn't go as far as to say we are treated less valuable. however, i think that tattoos and piercings do adversly affect the chances of succeeding in an above-average career field. how often do you see a lawer with stretched earlobes or visible tattoos? fortunately, professional clothing and/or uniforms cover quite a bit of the human body. if the 'true' professionals don't know what we 'freaks in sheeps clothing' are hiding under our white collars, then everyone lives happily ever after.

Only if the piercings make you look like a hoodlum. If you go to overboard, then people will think that you spend too much time in your appearance. If you only have your ears doubled, it's no big deal. Belly buttons don't count because they can't see it and also loweer back tattoos, like mine, are rarely seen.

Unfortunately, most people act like those of us who are tattood & pierced are demonic and stupid. However, most of the tatted people I know are incredibly intelligent, polite, and motivated. I have been turned down by many jobs b/c I refuse to remove my piercings and will not EVER cover my tattoos - they are my own art proudly on display. The places that are happy to hire me, I have been happy to work for. It's true that it is harder to find a good job, but when you do, you know you have been hired for your abilities and intelligence, and you know the people you work for are comfortable with your appearance - making it easier to get along. I'm in the process of starting my own business - and I'll hire ONLY the tattood & pierced!
