Do you think our homeland is protected from nuclear stikes??

Not really, no. A nuclear launch would end in disaster in any instance on any scale. Even if it was shot down in mid air the reminisce would float back down and affect the area below. Even if it were over water, water travels and thus spread the nuclear waste all over.
