I am in Honors English I and my class was assigned a one thousand word paper on a topic of our choice. Since I am an atheist, my topic is religion. If you could answer the following questions, I'd be really grateful!

Are you religious?
Why or why not?
Regardless of either answer do you believe in God?
Why or why not?
If you are religious, what are you? (Christian, Jewish, etc.)
Describe your religion in your own words.
What is your view on religion in general?

I only need about four sets of answers, but if a lot more people want to answer, I wouldn't mind at all!
Please help me! (The rough draft is due this Friday! >.<)

Thank you very much!

You would be wise not to write about religion.

But in case do decide not to heed my advice...

1) In my own way
1a) No reason
2) Not sure
2a) No reason
3) N/A
4) My religion isn't so much as a religion as it is a quest.
5) Interesting concept, can't be argued with from a firm position (either way).

1) Are you religious?
Be more specific. What do you mean by "religious"?

2) Why or why not?

3) Regardless of either answer do you believe in God?

Define "God"? I believe the natural Universe is the closest thing to a god figure.

4) Why or why not?

Why? Because I believe we all come from the Universe. There is no evidence showing the Universe being created by an outside entity. So, Pantheism makes the most sense to me.

5) If you are religious, what are you? (Christian, Jewish, etc.)

I am a Pantheist/Buddhist, although I don't see either of those as religions.

6) Describe your religion in your own words.

I worship objective observation, love, Science, humanity, and the natural world.

7) What is your view on religion in general?

I think religion is dangerous. Spirituality is fantastic.

1 : relating to or manifesting faithful devotion to an acknowledged ultimate reality or deity
Merriam Websters on line
Note this allows for a religious baseball nut/NASCAR/Desperate Housewives/success driven person.
Yes I am religious. Pascal's Wager, while an outstanding reason from a Rationalist's viewpoint, is but 1 reason for me. It is heritage. God has shown the divine reality to me on numerous occasions. I have participated in so many healings - as a pastor/healer. And - I need a God who can cleanse me. A shower only penetrates the dermis so far.
My religion, as a follower of Jesus, is to seek to love God with all my heart, soul, strength, and mind and to love my neighbor as myself. I fail miserably.
There is an acronym GRACE - God's riches (heaven/salvation/forgiveness etc) at Christ's expense. The negativity of the world and eventually our own negativity to ourselves has to find some manner of resolution. Christ's death/sacrifice and resurrection/acceptance is transgenerational and transracial. It fits reality.
Religion is a necessity for humanity. Where none existed, myths - often the forerunner of religion, arose. Quantam mechanics holds that even the observation of atomic measurement alters the measurement. Another way of saying that would be standing on the sand at the beach continually shifts the sand under your feet. Religion gives humanity the foundation upon which to stand.
God's speed on your paper.

Are you religious? - I don't consider myself to be relgious, because my emphasis is on a relationship with God no on religion. However those who know me would consider me to be religious.
Why or why not? - I am because I believe in participating fully in my church. I am not because I believe that what is most important is my relationship with God, which is like a family relationship. I don't "do religious things" in order to be approved by God.
Regardless of either answer do you believe in God? - Yes, I do.
Why or why not? - Several reasons: - logic, the creation, nature itself, points to an "intelligent design". Experience . He has spoken to my heart, has answered questions, and answered prayer.
If you are religious, what are you? (Christian, Jewish, etc.) - I am a Christian.
Describe your religion in your own words. - I think I already have. It is a living relationship with God, brought about by faith in Jesus Christ who died for my sins. Being a Christian does not mean I am better than anything else. Anyone who believes that doesn't understand what Christianity is all about. Christianity means believing I am a forgiven sinner, and that God is in the process of changing me by His Holy Spirit in me.
What is your view on religion in general? - According to the last verse of James chapter 1, true religion is visiting the widow and the orphan and keeping myself from sin. That kind of religion, I can go along with.

Religion is man's search for God. I have found God and am a Christian. So I guess I am more Christian than religious. I believe in God because I live for Him.

My religion in my own words: I am a Christian that has found God but continues to learn more about Him every day. At age 58 I am attending Bible college to learn more of Him. I serve Him as a Pastor, a teacher, and a missionary.

1. Yes, although I've had to cut back on some of my participation in religious activities at actual buildings due to health concerns and work schedule lately. I do bring my scriptures to work.
2. Guess you could say I became acquainted with the principle of having the Holy Ghost, or Holy Spirit, testify of the scriptures at a young age. I could just feel something different when reading Bible stories and later on when studying the actual Bible, especially the New Testament and the Book of Mormon as well.
When you make an effort to make time for God in your life, you start to tap into reserves of spiritual power, patience, and understanding that make life easier.
3. Yes, I believe in God, our Heavenly Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.
4. Oh, I guess having spiritual feelings almost every day which testify of His existence over the past 30-plus years is the reason why. Prayer and study have played their part. Plus the more I learn about the world, the more amazing all of His creations become to me.
5. I am Christian (a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, or Mormon, or LDS)
6. Sometimes this makes people mad, but I like to think that my religion is the honors class of Christianity, and this is why. We use the Bible as well as the Book of Mormon and other modern scripture given to modern prophets, including a living prophet today, Pres. Gordon B. Hinckley. Because our canon of scripture covers more territory (Old World and New World) and time (including references to life before this world began), it means we have to do more studying. We also have a tie-in to ancient Jewish temple ceremonies with an emphasis on Jesus Christ. I believe my church has the authority of God to act in His name on earth, which is called the Priesthood, and it is the same authority that Jesus Christ had when He was on the earth.
7. I admire all faithful participants in all religions. Moral integrity is a high priority with me, and I think participation in a religion helps you develop character, to learn how to make time for God and serve others. I think it's ok to "graduate up" as needed or go where your blessings are. I also think there are "honors students" in all the religions in the world, but you don't have to be an extremist to be considered such. True religion for everyone is to be kind to those around you, since as God's children we ought to think of each other as brothers and sisters, or at least distant cousins.
Hope this helps, and have a happy day.

I don't consider myself religious.
I am a Christian which is a lifestyle
Yes I believe in God
I go to an Assemblies of God (pentecostal) church
My Christianity is based on having asked Jesus in to my heart and turning it over to Him. I follow His way and will, reading and studying His word (the Bible), doing the best I can at whatever job I am in (doing it as if just for Him) and I enoy siging praise to Him.
I believe religion is for some a real experience with the Lord and for others it is just stuff to fill the God shaped hole inside us. No matter what the religion. I do believe Jesus is the only way to get to Heaven.
I hope that helps and good luck with your paper.

Are you religious? no

Why or why not? because religion is man made.

Regardless of either answer do you believe in God? yes i believe
in a god,

Why or why not? because i dont believe random chance put us here from some odd explosion or whatever. we were here by some form of intelligence.

If you are religious, what are you? (Christian, Jewish, etc.) Agnostic

Describe your religion in your own words. i believe god's existance cannot be proven nor disproven, but it is rather based on faith of the individual. do not go to any form of church or spend my time worshipping. if god does exist he will judge people by our hearts not our labels.

What is your view on religion in general? it, like everything else, has its ups and downs. it has caused arguments, wars, fights between people, but it also teaches moral and perhaps other good qualities in humans as well. however, religion in general is to explain what cannot be explained given the current understanding of the universe. at one point it claimed thunder was gods voice and lightning his hand. mentally handicapped were considered demon posessed, and such. (u could go into witches too).

have fun writing, i wish i could have written about this subject in school... i went to a christian school though and yah u cant really speak against it without getting looked at funny.

if u want anymore info feel free to message me.

Ok - I will answer:

Are you religious:
Yes, but not as much as I used to.

Why or why not:
Life, I guess. Have been wanting to get back
to church, but with husband, family & 2 jobs, I
am wearing myself thin.

Do I believe in God:
I most certainly do!

Why or Why not:
I have had a lot of wonderful things in my
life, and I do thank God for that. I've noticed,
though, that things run smoother, things go
better, and I have a better outlook on things
when I go to church & am more involved
than when I'm not regularly attending church.

What am I?:
I grew up Catholic, then as I got older, I
realized I had different beliefs than Catholics
do. I am now Christian.

Describe your religion:
I think people interpret their religion
in different ways. I believe in God, I believe in
praying, I believe that Jesus died for us, and
I believe if we respect each other and treat
others like we would like to be treated, we
will get to spend Eternity with our Lord.

View on religion:
I don't try to push religion on other
people, just like I don't expect it to be pushed
on me.When I was younger, I doubted there
was a God, as I'm sure everyone does from
time to time. I also think some people
exaggerate religion (ex. talking in tongues,
fainting). To me, that is fake. But, it's not up
to me to judge.

Hope this helps! :-)
