caffeine tricks your mind and blood vessles into thinking you don't need any sleep and so you get energy. However it is addictive and you can get huge headaches if you give it up.

There is no healthier substitue for energy than good food and a good night sleep

It's not a need it is the buzz - these drinks give a lift and because they contain high amounts of sugar and caffeine they increase energy. You are right we don't need caffeine but some people depend on it to get through the day at full speed.

I never drink em. I tried one once, and it made me incredibly jittery and irritable. People probably like them becuase they already ingest a lot of caffeine and their body has built up a tolerance, so they amp it up to the next level. I do my best to stay away from caffeine as much as possible. I sleep better that way.

I agree with you! What they really need is to get more rest at night or even some exercise.. I no longer drink things with caffeine. .When I drink coffee, it's Swiss Water Processed decaf.. I feel great.. Actually more energy too!

Some of the thing that are added to energy drinks can be slightly addictive. When you drink one every day, your body relies on it. When you don't have it you get headaches and feel dizzy. Also, most energy drinks taste really good so people drink it becasue of that too.

Is caffeine a thorn in your side? Are you starting to feel like you just can't live without it? Well, you can! Caffeine is a drug, and like any drug, in order to free yourself from addiction, you have to be committed to your plan of action, and be ready for the pain and frustration of withdrawal. The key to quitting is the knowledge that things will get worse before they get better. But, once they get better, they will *stay* better. Best of luck to you.

Because they are ignorant and think it's some kind of magical energy-boosting drink. It makes you feel more active for a certain amount of time, but afterwards you have what they call the "crash" which makes you feel even worse than you did before drinking it.

True, it's not good for us. Typically my days are from 5:00am til 11:00pm...nonstop! I need a boost to get me through the day. The real answer is probably to simplify our lives. Until then...make mine a double espresso!
