Can food allergies appear very suddenly? I have never had problems with eating strawberries until two days ago, when I started breaking out in hives. It's definitely the strawberries, not something else I ate. Do food allergies often appear out of the blue like this?

I have never had an allergic reaction to ANYTHING i've eaten before, so I really don't know what to expect with food allergies.

Yes it is possible for allergies to suddenly set in. My mother found out the hard way in her late 30's that she was allergic to shellfish after years of eating shrimp. The bodies immune system is a mystery sometimes. See an allergist and be tested. Learn what other types of foods and plants can give you the same symptoms.

I developed ragweed allergy in my mid 30's and found out through internet searches that during the ragweed season certain foods should be avoided like bananas, plantains, canteloupe and watermelon. I tried to avoid these foods during the season and it reduced the severity of my symptoms.

See a professional.

Yes, you can develop allergic reactions just out of the blue. My sister used to only be allergic to strawberries and over the years she has accumulated many; dust, molds, pollen, artificial food coloring, sorbitol, and who knows what else?
