Open carry is not illegal. open carry is defined as any firearm which is obvious to the average person.
Concieled Weapons Require a permit, which is only issued after a background check and safety course.

It is legal to openly carry a weapon in Arizona, but a license for the firearm is required, This license also requires basic shooter safety training. As far as a lot of shootings in AZ, I think the statistics bear up that there are less than in most states without these laws. I am sitting in San Bernardino CA right now and there were more than 50 homicides in the city limits last year. I don't think any city in AZ could even come close to that number. There probably were not 50 homicides in the entire state...

You can carry it exposed with no permits....Concealed you need a permit. Easy to get, short safety course and you got it.
My son lives in Az, he meets me at the airport with his compact 40cal.and a 45 for me. I carry the whole time there, except where prohibited ( Churches, Bars, Municipal/state bldgs and Indian Reservations or places with signs posted)
Most of the shootings are in the Barios....Violent crime is very low as everyone has a gun. Car thefts is the biggest problem

You need to have a gun license and probably a CCW - a permit to Carry a Concealed Weapon. Then you can pretty much carry it wherever you want to (up to a certain extent, of course).
