For healthy oatmeal:
While water is boiling add your dried fruit, dates are what I use. You may also add diced apples at this time. After you add the oatmeal you add the cinnamon. When oatmeal is about done you may add butter or half-and half.
If the above is not sweet enough maple syrup, or brown sugar go well over the oatmeal. Xylotol can be used in place of sugar.
Now I am hungry for some oatmeal!

I usually use jam but sometimes I add fruit :
Fruity Porridge
Ingredients
1/2 cup of porridge
1 cup of soya milk
handful of sultanas
1 banana
sugar
Add 1/2 cup of porridge and 1 cup of soya milk together in a microwaveable dish or a saucepan. If making in the microwave cook for 2 mins on 800 then stir and add more milk if required and put back on for a further 2 mins. If cooking in a saucepan put on a medium heat and keep stirring all the time until the porridge starts to bubble.
Line the bottom of a bowl with thinly sliced banana and pour the porridge over the top. Add a handful of sultanas (washed in hot water to make them swell) and stir. Put a layer of sugar on the top for a crunch when you eat. Perfect for those cold winter mornings and healthy for the kids too if you leave off the sugar.

I like to use milk, Splenda Brown Sugar blend, cinnamon, banana slices, and toasted walnuts in mine. I would never eat oatmeal plain. It just tastes like little pieces of soggy cardboard that way.

Brown sugar and cream
maple syrup and milk
plain sugar, butter and half and half
sprinkle of dried cherries or cranberries
any of the above combo's. That's why I like Malt O Meal, it has more flavor in the first place.

Here are some of the things I've done before:
teaspoon of jam
teaspoon of brown sugar (my favourite)
teaspoon of maple syrup and a sprinkle of walnuts
some raisins, cinnamon and sugar
splenda and cinnamon (cinnamon-sugar without the guilt)
chopped up apples and a bit of peanut butter
blueberries and a little bit of sugar

I like mine with a little cream, brown sugar and raisins (cook raisins as the oatmeal is cooking to make them plump).
You can also add any dried fruits or nuts that you prefer.

Okay, so once you make your oatmeal, I had a little bit of suagr, a little bit of brown sugar, a little maple syrup, a little powdered suger, and a bunch of fresh friut. It sounds like a lot of sugar but it's really not if you don't add that much of it. The friut you can add however much you want!

Brown sugar and some raisins - makes it so much better than plain, bland oatmeal.

Honey is always a healthier way to have a sweet topping in my opinion and leaves me feeling better the rest of the day. It would also be nice to have some fresh fruit thrown on top or to prepare it with a bit of milk and less water to add it more favor.
