Depends on the individual and how long and how much they smoke. My husband becomes unbearable to live with everytime he attempts to quit. However, I put the pack down and never went back.. I believe it was because he started smoking when he was 14 and I started when I was 25. I also smoked about a 1/2 pack a day and he was smoking close to 2 packs a day. I would discuss quitting smoking with your doctor before I chose any particular product. Good Luck!!

It's hard MENTALLY. But if you both have decided to quit, that's even better. Go to your doctor and get a presciption for Wellbutrin. You take it for 10 days. After that you will have NO physical nicotine cravings at all!!! It's been 8 years for me now(after 35 year, 2 pack a day habit), and when I get stressed, I still think I want one, but know I won't EVER go back to it. Once you've been off them, you find out how much anyone who smokes smells, coughs, wheezes, and all the other digusting things you don't think of while you're still a smoker. Good luck!!!

Good for both of you~~You can do it, cold turkey. I seen my wonderful husband do it. Please allow me to share a brief history. My husband started smoking when he was 15. He joined the Navy at 17, married me at 26, we had 5 children, I begged him to stop smoking,"How can I tell the children not to smoke ,if Daddy does ? He tried but he wasn't sucessful. All the so called nagging in the world did no good. He retired from the Navy & we moved back to Texas and then my 33 yr. old nephew found he had lung cancer caused strickly from smoking.and died a horrible death 6 mos. later leaving a wife and 2 small children. That really made an impression on our children against smoking, they loved Ronnie. ~~~At the Bowling Center one day my husband who is never sick, had a heart attack, resulted in a very lengthy invasive surgery flat on his back for hours on a hard steel table, near death. PRAISE GOD my husband lived and never ever picked up another cigerette or even wanted one. He said it was no problem at all for him cause,he quit,he was done, finished.
My loving husband is 80 now and in good health with 5 grown married children and none of us smoke. If it sounds like I am bragging, I am, you know that's what Texans do best. Good look to you guys and I hope this story motivates you both.
I seen the following posted__________God Bless You !!!
Isn't having a smoking section or smoking area
like having a pe-ing section in a swimming pool

I'm not going to say it's easy. I quit and started back up numerous times. Then I watched my stepdad go through an agonizing death due to lung cancer. First he had a lung removed, then found out the cancer had spread to the bones and throughout the body. He just withered away after that. It was difficult to even look at him. That's what finally prevented me from starting back up again -the reality check of seeing all this.
The only tip I have is don't take drags from your buddies. I convinced myself that it was okay, but it only kept stringing along the addiction.

Did you have to ask this question? Just kidding. 46 hours and counting. Quit cold turkey after more than 20 years smoking. I feel pretty good. And I was apprehensive, to say the least. Good luck.

It's harder than giving up Heroin. It took me three goes and the danger point is after six months - you think I've kicked it! so I'll just have a couple tonight at this party...............dun for again.
Will power is pretty much it, but wanting to stop and even asking this question are the start.
Good Luck to you both.

Programme your brain.... smoking is disgusting, unhealthy, etc. every day when you get up, go to bed, when you smoke one, or when you think about smoking... when you are ready and have programmed yourself long enough you will suddenly stop... without too much pain...Anyway, I did it this way and hope it works for you, too .. I had trained myself for about 1 year... the first week was difficult but since then I am fine... I still say to myself "SMOKING IS DISGUSTING" ...never say I don't smoke, I don't like smoking, etc...

I gave up on willpower alone. This isn't recommended unless your a really strong person. I didn't have a choice, I was so poor, I couldn't afford to buy cigarettes anymore. I suggest using the gum and patches.

I quit cold Turkey 7 months ago and it was pretty easy because I was finally ready to quit. All this after smoking a pack a day for 7 years. Once your mind is made up, it's really not that bad.
If you need some help try quitnet.
