he is a mythical character.
it doesn't matter what color you imagine him to be, he's make-believe anyway! make him green if you want to.

Why do white people always have a white Jesus in their home? Is that any less blasphemous? You're assuming Jesus was white?! Look at the people from the Middle East now (like the late Yassar Arafat)...are they white? Nope.
Oh, and, we didn't have a black Jesus in our house.
Edit:
We're the morons? A couple DOZEN people interpreted your question the same way. What are you suggesting then? That Jesus was Latino?

I always get comments on my Polka-dotted Picture of Jesus.
I do not think that it is racist or blasphemy. We were all created in the image of God, right? Then so was Jesus. There are examples of Humanity that are dark skinned. Without any photographic evidence to the contrary who is to say that Jesus was not Black as well?
Would his ethnicity change his message?
Be happy that they have a picture of Jesus on the wall. If you are a Christian, then they worship the same God that you do. They just disagree on skin pigmentation.
That picture you are reffering to? that is an artists conception anyway. For all we know Jesus could have looked like Pee Wee Herman. The secret word for the day is Salvation!!

So Christ is white? Has there been anything that says he was white? Who's to say he wasn't darker, like the people are from that region of the world? Who cares if they have a black Jesus statue- at least they believe in something. And it's easier for people to believe something when it is closer to who they are. Does it change what Christ did for them? No. Just another way at looking at things.

Maybe making him white is not right either. In the region he lived in Jesus most likely had dark or olive skin, brown eyes and black hair. Why do so many artists make him white with blue eyes?

The same reason whites depict a white Jesus.
God/goddesses or other deities tend to take on the attributes and physical representation of the people who worship them.

For the same reason white people have a white Jesus in theirs. The same reason Buddha is in a Chinese person home. The same reason the statue of Mary is in a catholic home. It is not blasphemy that our savior is black. No one really know how he look so no one can judge.

It's a little bit racially biased, but so is the portrayal of a white Jesus. The fact is that scripture plainly tells us that Jesus was Jewish.

He labored as a wood worker till he grew to become an unofficial instructor or Rabbi. He became crucified in his 30's. No they did no longer circulate barefoot, they wore sandals. Jesus probably doesn't fit any of our contempoary racial categories. He certainly wasn't white with blue eyes i he lived in ancient palestine.
If the point of the Jesus story is to that God became human, isn't it okay to have a depiction of Jesus with whom you can relate?
