just let them know that you are only having your family and a couple of friends due to finances....or don't say anything and send out announcements to people you care about after the event....good luck

Tell them it's a really small wedding. Be honest. Tell them you just want close family and friends.

Or if it is a budget problem. Tell them that's the reason. If you lie now and saying you're eloping or are only inviting parents or something, they'll find out from other people that attended that it wasn't true. So you have to watch your back because people at the wedding will tell the people that weren't invited.

Are you inviting other people to the reception?
If you have it in your budget I would make the wedding 30 and then invite everyone else to the reception. I know that's where the money blows up. Just be honest to everyone.

I like your sense of respect and how you are going about doing this. Just be honest. Tell them you are getting married and leave it at that. Then, if they ask where it's going to be and if they can come, that is when you say that you really wish you could have everyone there but the place you are having it can only have 30 guests so you are just having family there.

You can tell them about it, but just say that you are having a small wedding, and can only have 30 people. It's not required to invite everyone that you've ever met in your life to you wedding. It's your day, and although u can only have a small amount it's gonna be a great day for you anyway! good luck, and best wishes!

If it's a matter of cost and location constraints just simply tell them you are only able to invite a small number and so you are reserving those for very close family and friends. Perhaps you could have a bigger reception later with a video of your wedding for those who could not come due to the limit of guests.

Good luck and congratulations!

How about "I'm getting married! We're not doing the huge wedding, just something very small and intimate".
