Well I've lived here all my life, so obviously I'm prejudiced. It all depends what you are looking to experience of course, but I'll tell you this....

PROS

* Some of the best restaurants in the world
* We have mountains, valleys, desert, beach....and you can see it all in one day!
* Every ethnicity and race that you could imagine is here
* we have Hollywood and the Movie stars
* It's not really a "City" like others, it's a lot of different communities each with their own history and character. Beverly Hills is much different than Redondo Beach which is much different than East Los Angeles

CONS

* Night Life is over-rated
* Smog has gotten better, but we still have those days
* You CANNOT get from one place to another without a car, and we can be the biggest "me-first" idiots on the road.
* A lot of neighberhoods you do NOT want to walk around in at night.....and some can be RIGHT NEXT to places you need to be!
* People here can be very "flakey" (cancel plans you have to go out without notice) and phony.

Dear David and Victoria Beckham:

Someone somewhere, I wish I could remember who, called LA 58 communities in search of a city. A better description of LA I dare you to find.

I talked to a women in Redondo Beach once who said she had never been to the Valley, except driving through on the Freeway. I've only been to RB, and only then because its the beach.

We are a collection of large neighborhoods where most people have never been to many parts of the city. The traffic has a lot to do with that.

You should find your accent works like an aphrodisiac on the natives. And be prepared to be gently ribbed for it and any of the British patois you should use. It's soccer, not football.

We have British food shops, bbcamerica, and even pubs where the ex-pats watch soccer, in case you get homesick. Even your own newspaper, union jack news, at www.ujnews.com.

Enjoy your visit.

Los Angeles is a very cosmopolitan city. It's huge. There's rich areas, poor areas, and people of many cultures. Very diverse atmosphere. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. It's a great choice.
