I have been having a lot of colds lately and my doctor sent me to have a chest x-ray last week. Yesterday they called and said that they didn't like what they saw on it and wanted me to have a ct scan. So I went to the hospital this morning and had the ct scan done. I was looking on the doctors orders and the diagnosis said LLL Opacity. I looked online and all I could find is case studies of bronchoalveolar carcinoma. I am totally confussed. Is this lung cancer or not. If so is it treatable? I am only 28 and I have a wonderfull husband and 2 beautiful little girls and I can't leave them. If you have any answers I would really appreciate it.

Woah there! Hold your horses!

Opacity is not necessarily cancer

Although lung cancers DO cause an opacity on the Chest Xray and on the CT scan that is because there is "extra stuff" there blocking the x-ray beam.

Other things cause opacity too:
o Pneumonia
o Lymph Nodes
o Granulomatous diseases
o Parasitic infection (hydatid cyst)

Talk with your doctor first.

Oh yeah - quit smoking

Hi,

II think the LLL means Left Lower Lobe (of your lung). The opacity could be a result of an infection (pneumonia/ bronchitis) or even possibly scar tissue from a previous infection. There are so many other things that could be going on other than cancer. Until you have a biopsy you will not know the results. Case in point, I had Hodgkins at 15 (obviously went through treatment) and first child at 26. A few months after my baby was born I was having coughs, feeling "heavy/tight" in the chest. After x-ray, ct scan, MRI, gallium scan etc the docs (and I )were certain it was cancer. I went in for surgery to remove the "tumor" only to find out - 6 weeks later - it was my thymus they removed. Long story short, the pregnancy/hormones had my body do crazy things that mirrored a cancer relapse and the Thymus enlarge. So,,,, I'm not sure how long it has been since you've had your 2nd little girl but there is always that possibility. None the less, get a 2nd or even 4th opinion - those girls will keep your spirit up whether it's good news or bad. Best to you!
(By the way, my "baby" is now 14 and has an 11 year old bro!)

Try not to get stressed out...Last year I had the biggest scare of my life. I got pnuemonia for the first time ever ( I'm a 53 yr. old ex-smoker of 5 yrs.) After a wk of antibiotics my dr. ordered a 2nd x-ray & said my pnumonia shouldv'e cleared up by now,he ordered a cat scan. Well when I read the results I was scared as hell. It said a mass 2.5cm. other jargon I can't remember. My dr. even admitted later he thought I had cancer. I was told by a lung surgeon that a biopsy would be a wast of time, that a mass on my upperlobe whether it's a fungus or cancer needed to be removed. well I had the surgery thinking I had cancer & when I came out of surgery, I was told the mass was a fungus tht is in the desert soil. I would even mention this to your dr. I'd think if caught early enough you could avoid surgery using ant-fungal drugs. I even had to take these meds for or 4 mths after surgery, this fungus can make you very sick.
