Marriage Belarus or Russian?

I met a girl who lives in Russia although she is from Belarus .. Now she is living in Russia illegally just for work… I am an American citizen and would like to visit her …for marriage purposes should I visit her in Russia or Belarus where she is from?... so that I can say to immigration that I actually did see her ?... id rather meet in Russia since there is more to do there…however I don’t thin I can tell immigration that we met up there since she is not supposed to be there . And please don’t tell me about the dangers of marring a Russian girl I have heard this before ….. there’s always a risk in marriage the way I look at it …. Thanks so much for the ones who actually give good answers …my and her story is really an amazing story and we have been talking for many years …

I would visit her in Belarus since that is were she will be emigrating from. Be sure to take lots of pictures of the two of you all over the place - they serve as great proof that you actually know each other. Also, I have heard you should be sure you get married in the states as U.S. Immigration doesn't acknowledge marriages in all other countries (you can check with Immigration for the exact status of Russia or Belarus in that regard).

I am married to a Russian, and she has family in Minsk. I have been to Minsk and to Russia.

I hate to say it, but I would avoid Belarus. You don't want to get into a situation in Belarus, because things can get sticky in a hurry. You will have a much easier time dealing with Russia if it comes to that.

BTW, if you have not met Russians and Belarussians, let me give you some stereotypical differences. First off, Belarussian women are tall and blond. It looks like the Queens of the Amazon ro something. They are athletic, Scandinavian looking. Ravishingly pretty. They look like the Russian tennis star -- Maria Sharapova.

Russian women are much more varied. They can be stockier, and can be red haired, brunette, blond. Some look just like Europeans. Others look so Slavic they could not be confused with a European.

Anyway, good luck. One thing I can say about these women -- they are still ladies. being a lady means something over there. By contrast, American women seem macho and masculine.

I think Byelorussia is a better bet. After all, don't you want to meet her family? With all respect, it is important to understand as much background as possible before getting married to someone.

I would have thought that a marriage in either Russia or Byelorussia would be recognised in the States, as long as all procedures are correctly followed, but in any case it would be a very good idea to make sure you understand fully the relevant immigration rules for your country. It woud be worth talking to an immigration advisor/attorney, but at least check out your immigration service website.

Well, a routine stop by the Gai, will show that her visa has expired. That could potentially cause issues for you-being her boyfriend/fiance.
I strongly suggest you meet her in Minsk. She can them just use her passport as a tourist. You then can tour with a native Russian speaker-and a babe. Recommend ST Pete-ladies seem to like it.
As far as "dangers", yes if you're stupid/naive. Since you've been corresponding "for years", you should get along great. I've got two acquaintances who married Russian/Latvian women. Both ladies were intelligent, erudite, and excellent people.
FWIW, my own experience was in St-Pete, with a young woman going to school. Met her at a party of grad-students-Cindy Crawford look-alike, spoke three languages, and was getting her Masters in Econ. Oh yeah, she also studied for two years at the Conservatory in Moscow. Shoulda married her.

Just so you know. Most of the girls there are former streetwalkers and will take you to the cleaners if they ever get to the USA.
