I have a Renault Megane from 2001. For the fourth time, the ignition coils have failed. The previous 3 times were covered under warranty so I was not charged for replacements. This time I phoned Arnold Clark Renault and was told I'd have to pay £70 for a diagnostics test.

I am sure that the problem is the engine coils so don't think I need
the diagnostics test. Is this compulsory? Also, roughly how much would I be expected to pay to replace the coil? I am also due to have a service and MOT done within the next couple of weeks as well.

Do I have a leg to stand on if I say that there is obviously a fault
with their coils and I shouldn't have to pay for them to be fixed
AGAIN? They have never admitted to me there is a known problem with their coils.

Also, is it necessary to go to an authorized renault service centre to get the repairs done or can it be done at any local garage that might be cheaper?

Renault is a French car and the French cars have electronics failure very often. If I were you I would go to a local garage that knows to work on any kind of car, especially Renault and if it is possible I would buy aftermarket ones that are not French cause they are much better than the Renault's.

But please don't take my answer as an offense, I'm only saying the truth from what I experienced with my dad's previous car (Renault Laguna)

Replacing the coil pack is a doddle so fitting isn't expensive. I'd be more concerned as to why they keep going. They should last for years so three times since 2001 seems ott. Personally I never use main dealers for service work. Go to a reputable mechanic.

in your application, it will be an ignition source for the fuel that will produce the flames that you want to come out of your exhaust. Does the flame kit have a suggestion for what to use? If you bought the kit, I would think it would come with one, but you probably want to use what they suggest, so as to not over/under power it. Maybe google the name of your kit?

I admire your resilience but learn your lesson & get rid of it. Renaults suck.
