My friend is moving into a new house and she asked me and a few other friends to paint her room with her, we want to go pretty crazy, so far we're planning to have a human outline on the floor, a wall that we all sign, and a black and white checkerboard ceiling, and other ideas? She's 16.

Behr paint has a wonderful color called "copper penny" that's really warm, rich orange color. Sounds like a great match to what you're plotting...

PS, the mom in me also has to add an addendum to what someone posted above. NEVER glue anything to your ceiling. If you want to put up stars or anything else, you can use that gooey poster putty to put them up so that you don't damage the ceiling. For one thing, glue won't dry fast enough to keep your stars all in place. For another, those that do still will never come off without damaging the ceiling. My daughter did them in her room a couple of years ago. When she left in October to move out, removing the stars was a horrible mess. We ended up spending days refininishing and repainting the ceiling.

One way to do a checkerboard easily is to get paintable wallpaper. You can paint out the checkerboard ahead of time, then put it up on the ceiling really easily with a little help from a dad. In fact, you could all sign the ceiling that way and make it really special and unique. She could peel it off and take it with her when she goes to college.

OK the mother in me is coming out ! If she is only 16 I assume she still lives w/ parents!! Are they okay with the ideas you guys have so far?? If so what I suggest is to use the chalk board paint on the floor (maybe just half of it) then you can draw the outline of the body with chalk and even change the shape every so often! Painting ceilings isn't as easy as it sounds so you may want to consider just a solid color, but you could buy a bunch of glow in the dark stars and glue them to the ceilings and a few on the walls (this looks TOTALLY awesome with a black light!!!)On the half of the floor you don't paint (if you decide to go this way) I would put an area rug down in a neon color that she likes, it will look cool in the black light too! Then on the walls do one wall in the checkerboard pattern and use the idea about large styrofoam peices painted to look like checkers and stuck to the wall! Also like the idea of chalk board paint on a wall so you could all sign it! But remember all this will cost a bit of cash and she will have to live with it for a while so be sure whatever you decide doesn't break the bank and it is something she will want to wake up to everyday!! Have fun!!

I have a few ideas, I hope you like one or all of them. You can buy chalkboard paint and paint one wall with it. You can get huge buckets of colored chalk at toy stores. That way you all can write and draw on it whenever you want. Or, put up some metal sheeting that is painted the same color as the wall and put magnets all over it. Black light posters are old school, but still cool if you can find them, and the black light will reflect off your checkerboard ceiling as well.

Paint a warped checkerboard on the walls. Hang black and white beads from the ceiling too.

if you have a checkerboard ceiling, you could cut out big disks of styrofoam and paint them red or black, like checkers, then glue them to some of the squares. get a whole bunch of old picture frames at flea markets, spray paint them all the same color and use them (with no glass) to frame each of your signatures. buy a bunch of old records from a second hand shop, and do 1 whole wall with them. dip your hands in black paint and put your hands all over 1 wall, or maybe beside each of your signatures. A huge blank canvas or sheet of wood painted white where you all take turns throwing paint on it, creating a unique pice of modern art.

I believe white curtains would look better with blue walls, so if the curtains are blue, it all depends on if they are more pastel blue, navy blue, neon blue, or royal blue. Also, what kind of feeling would you liek the room to have? Is it an office, den, living room, or bedroom? Defining what the room is going to be used for, will help you decide what color you want on the walls. The more cozy you want it to feel, the darker you'll want the walls to be!

Try them all!!!

Then launch "Color Visualizer". It will let you drag and drop colors to paint several sample bedrooms.

Go wild and play with ceiling colors! This will give you a great idea of what you like before you have to live with it.

well, ultra gloss red goes nice with checkers. or a baby blue (think car races). if you want to get fancy, you can get EL lights (electro luminescent like indiglow). i think you can get them in sheets and cut them any way you want. makes a big night light.

if you can get some chrome in there, that might be cool. and if she has a favorite color, try to splash some in there. like put some on crown molding, and base boards to tie the whole room together. and of course, don't forget the police tape.

The others have some good ideas, you could also use glow in the dark paint, they sell it at Lowe's.

Go fun....paint the room hot pink and lime green. Accent with yellows, oranges, etc. Or go with Tangerine orange and lime green. You get the idea..go bright....fun and you won't get tried of it!!!!! It will be cheery..I don't care for dark colors myself...too depressing to me.
