If you have a healthy and healthy bird, it will squawk, talk, and play. Birds are pretty noisy animals and not everyone can have a bird because of this and other bird behavior.

Keep it healthy by feeding a good diet (not only seeds), a large and CLEAN cage, and a variety of toys. Change toys out once a week to avoid boredom and also make sure they are bird-safe materials.

It's also good to have wood and some plants for your bird to play with and chew on. Here is a list of safe and toxic plants.

Ignore it, because if you don't your response will reward the behavior.
Something that works for my 'Too is that I give him 3 chances to shut up, and if he won't, I immediately put him in his cage and cover him. Now, the only time he squawks is when he's hungry or thirsty, or when he sees a crow. I also put him to bed at dusk, as these birds need 10 to 12 hours of sleep at night, and a short nap during the day (about 30 minutes.).

well if your bird has it's wings clipped then try letting him out and play with him for a little bit or like most birds put him in a room where there is no light and cover him up and your bird should stop squawking.

Darpunzel put it well.

If the bird is actually squawking for your attention, ignore it. When it's quiet, go over and praise it, play with it. This teaches the bird that squawking for attention doesn't work and that quietness will be rewarded.

Play with them more often, play a radio in their area, or squirt lightly with water when they squawk. My parrot use to squawk alot, and these worked well on him. Giving more attention worked best.

Definately put a cloth over their cage, like the above user stated. My cousin gave us a bird that she had neglected for ten years, and let sit in a corner in the dark. It won't be quiet unless we cover it up.
