I have a Maryland drivers license but I might want to get a Florida D/L soon cuz I've lived here for some time now. Do I have to change my auto insurance account and agent when I register down here? or can I keep my present insurer?
I am insured with Nationwide and they have been on my side for 5 years now. I've been a great customer of theirs and I like being one.
Can I still stay with them if I get my car registered in Florida and replace my MD license plates with FL license plates?

Your insurance must match the state your vehicle is registered in. If your car is still registered in Maryland you can keep Maryland coverage on it. Most states require that you title your car in that state within 60 days, which means that you would have to get a local nationwide agent in FL to write you a FL policy.

Good luck, b/c insurance is EXPENSIVE in Flordia...

Generally speaking your license and plates are the state you are a resident of, and you are a resident if you are gainfully employed in the state or have lived there over 30 days.

As far as insurance, if Nationwide is allowed to write policies in Florida there is no reason you couldn't stay with them. You might even find a local agent who handles them.

You can stay with same carrier, but insurance requirements and cost vary from state to state and you need to be insured under FL coverage requirements. It may be a new account but they shoul;d give you some accomodation for being a loyal customer.
