My cousin's selling a 1995 Nissan Altima GLE with 168,000 miles for $1,500.00. She's had the car for 5 years and I'm quite sure she's maintained it well...i.e oil changes and such...

She says:

1. The car leaks oil, but isn't a problem with regular oil changes
AND
2.The check engine light is on, but nothing's wrong with the engine. They're just going to charge her $60 to turn it off.

I wanted to know if this is a good deal or not...what should I do? Are these good cars?

that engine light has to be checked. it wont pass the emissions, the oil leak might have a crack block, if its not, it can probably be an easy fix.

undesirable/unfastened gasoline caps will throw a mil easy and shops have charged $a hundred+ to tighten one. maximum folk turn their cap till it feels comfortable like older vehicles. maximum yet no longer all of todays caps click whilst they're totally tight. in this manner consistently tighten them till they click once or twice. They wont over tighten they are going to purely click. if your verify engine lights on as a result it extremely is going to take time to reset even though it extremely is going to burst off. it may desire to take a number of days so attempt it & forget approximately it. As mentioned above, a verify engine / MIL easy won't come on for an oil undertaking inflicting low oil stress yet an oil easy does rather. 2 diverse warning lights right here.. For oil easy, 1st-end to study oil, 2d - If finished call a mechanic $$$ end THE ENGINE !!! $$$ important explanation for verify engine easy is for emmissions / air high quality and why its nick named an "fool easy"...Idiots run directly to a save and spend 1000's changing aspects for no reason a million/2 the time because of the fact they reason no ill effect oftentimes & it may desire to circulate off itself. Mechanics merely love all idiots !!!

No! walk away from it, a better deal is waiting for you if you have a little patience. Buy a car like that if you know how to fix it, or your $1500 car may turn out to be an expensive car after all.

Don't buy it. If oil is leaking, it could be a costly repair. A new long block engine would be about $3,500.
If the engine light is on, something is wrong.

if you want it..get it

if the oil leak isnt a problem then ignore that

and to turn off most check engine lights..disconnect the batttery for a few minutes and reconnect it..generally fixes it
