and she feels like its ok to do it. A lot of her co-workers are getting disgusted with her. We just dont know how to tell her. This person is intellectual, god-fearing, she is just a beautiful person and well respected by her colleagues(except for this incident). How do we approach her without offending her?

Only a complete moron wouldn't know that farts are disgusting an inappropriate. And unless she has no sense of smell, she's aware they stink.

Forget the tact. Just tell her flat out. "Jennifer, please stop farting. It's disgusting. Thank you."

Open up the top of a half pint of Half & Half and then lightly reseal it. Next place it in her cube or desk where she will not notice it. In a few days she will get a dose of her own medecine when it pops open from fermenting gasses and stinks very badly.

Al alternative it to blast her with air freshners when she offends.

A bumper sticker that reads: Fart Queen aboard - no open flames within 20 feet.

A remote control fart machine will generate sound and maybe that will get the message across.

If she hails from any redneck areas she will be impervious to any criticisms. They are proud of their farts in the back country. You will have to resort to Sandalwood incense to mask the odor.

You're just gonna have to be blunt. Respect is a two-way street. She obviously doesn't respect you people or she would excuse herself so why should you extend the courtesy? Tell her flat out it's disgusting. Keep a can or two of lysol around too.

How would you handle a person who fired up a cigarette in your space?

Why are you all worried about offending her? She is not worried about offending any of you. Does anyone there have a spine?

The flatulence is polluting the air that you ALL breathe just the same as cigarette smoke or any other air borne pollutant. I would tell her so. If that doesn't work, then go to the person in charge of human resources. If that doesn't work, call O.S.H.A. They might have some suggestions.

As a last resort, sue.

If you go to Prank Place.com you can find a gadget that imiates body noises, it's quite funny. Use it in retaliation. Then get out the Lysol or light a candle in her honor.

You could also offer to take her outside. She should lay down on the ground or sidewalk. You walk on her belly until she's totally deflated. You both get back to the office, happy and smiling!

Needless to say it is a very awkward situation to be in, what I would do is talk to her in a very neutral tone and just mention to her that her farting is making your coworkers and yourself very uncomfortable, that you appreciate her as a person but she needs to stop with the farting.

Maybe she has a medical condition that makes her fart all the time.. who knows, but is better to talk openly about it.

If she does not stop talk to your supervisor and let her know about the situation.

ha ha . .silent killers huh? I think honesty is always the best policy. . I mean if she's older she may not be able to help it. .I know some older people I know the "poots" just seem to slip out.. and if they smell and you don't want to say anything, keep a bottle of Frebreeze around. .but gas isn't something I would be embarassed about. .I mean I pass gas and usually it's around family and we laugh, but if I had a problem with not being able to control my gas and someone brought it to my attention I would feel if it was important enough for them to mention it's important enough for me to deal with that issue.

Put a bottle of Beno on her desk. Put some Vick's vapor rub under your nose... if it smells bad and you have to sit next to her. Perhaps she pregnant... and does not know it, that causes increase in gas.

You could say around her but not directly to her "WHO CUT THE CHEESE?". Make sure other people hear and also make a big deal of it. She probably thinks no one smells anything, so she keeps doing it.
