I bought new speakers recently (Logitech's X-230) and i'm thinking of putting it on my desk ( wood ) about 25-30 cm away from the screen ( the large ones not LCD )
My sub is presently on the carpet under the desk beside a wall, but that wall is too far in under the desk ( because the desk is large), so i hardly hear a thing out of it. Wil the magnets or vibrations damage the screen?

Thanks

There are several things to consider here. First, the strong magnetic field from the speaker magnet will effect the colors (and possibly warp the image) on a tube CRT type monitor. Even if the subwoofer is magnetically shielded, there will probably be enough magnetic residual to still cause problems, being this close. Second, since bass tone are not very directional, you should not have a problem placing it at floor level. Turn up the level on the sub. Third, by placing the sub so close to you at head level, you won't get the full, deep, bass impact. EXPERIMENT, but keep it away from your monitor!

I wouldn't. It might not cause problems but why take the chance. For one thing, the sub might not be built to handle the Hz's that you are wanting. Another thing is the processor able to deliver that range of sound. Yes the carpet could cause a problem but remember a sub moves a lot of air and the more the better. You actually feel frequencies more than hear them if frequencies are low enough and that's what you want. I would suggest putting something under the sub such as something made of hard wood and make sure it touches the wall. If that works than you can attach the wood to the wall some way but keep it low (on the floor). Just have to try different things cause even the shape or design of the room makes a BIG difference.

No, they are usually shielded to prevent the electromagnetic interference.

However, some speakers are not "properly" shielded, and can still make the screen go slightly funky.

You probably wont know until you try out the proposed arrangement.
