If you start off by sticking your hand in it will probably freak out and thrash and possibly hurt itself so begin by just sitting by the cage and reading a book or watch tv. WHen he gets used to your presence then place ur hand in the cage with a treat or seeds eventually ur bird will accept ur hand as "furniture" and will eat out of ur hand. once he is eating out of ur hand encourage him to leave the cage by coaxing him out with a treat. Your bird will eventually trust you enough for you to get him out without using the treats but this process will not happen in a few hours it will take weeks possibly even months. If your bird bites you DO NOT REACT that is what he is looking for if if you punish him he still wins. So if he bites you hang in there and grit ur teeth and bare it for it will also break him of a bad biting habit. Good luck and next time u post tell us what type of bird it is others might give better info

You have to regain his trust. This can be a monumental task for a beginner! If your 'sis' is still around where the bird can see/hear her then I'm afraid your task is that much more difficult. Have you considered finding the bird a new home with someone who will be able to put the time in that's required? It sounds like you are in a hurry for this bird to forgive and forget!

Imagine this.....you are abducted by aliens and they stick you in a small room, where you have to eat..drink..pee&poop..entertain yourself..and then one of them comes along and terrorizes you..hitting things, scareing you and whatever.......
How quick would you get over this??? remember you can't speak their language!
That's what you're up against. It can be done but you need to develop more patience and you must learn more about behaviour.
I could write several things that you could do but it probably wouldn't work because you need to understand what you're doing first.

Start out by just putting your hand in the cage with millet or something else it likes to eat. Keep your hand in one spot and don't move it for a while. Once your bird sees that you are not trying to harm him, he might come a little closer to you. If he does, slowly move the treat towards him more. Keep doing this a few times a day, and your bird will become more comfortable with you. After a while, your bird will associate you with treats and will hop over to see you whenever you come near him. Then you might petting him or trying to get him onto your finger. Don't rush him and move slowly when you try it. Good luck!

this will be dificult... you have to get the bird to trust you dont ever push it start out by giving her yummy treats until when she sees you she runs up expecting food at that point instead of droping it have her take it from your hand eventally you can let her rest on your hand inside the cage from there you could take her out of the cage eventally she will love you for more then food and trust you
