First, you should read The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey. Also, be honest and genuine - it shows. There are not many honest sales people out there, but they succeed just as much, if not more so, than the crooked salesman.

1) Sell a quality product.
2) Work for a good dealer.
3) Be honest and don't insult customers with stupid offers on trades and prices. Don't play the usual BS games.
4) Know your product and the competition's product. Don't claim your's is better if it is not.

Sell yourself first, Show the product, Create the need, Demonstrate the value!!!! Emphasize its not what its costing them , but what it's saving them!!! Last but not least always be closing the sale!!!!!

listen to the customers & respond appropriately
always cross sell & upsell
don't be too pushy
be polite & suave
close on sales with confidence-ie how many shall I order for you

remember their name
use a couple sincere compliments
reference back to information they stated to show you are listening
all else falls lock them in the freezer until they sign on the dotted line

it doesnt matter what you sell, the key is talking to boatloads of people and always be closing.
lying and cherry picking will get you nothing.
