Well if you're dating a trashy girl then no.
But you can be subtle about it without coming off as too much of a jerk. Tell her what you're wearing, or what kind of event this is (like if it's more dressy make comments about it), and she might understand.

As long as you don't do it like, "Eeeeeew....you're not wearing THAT are you"????!!!
I think it would be informative to let her know what style people are mostly wearing. Let her know its for the sake of making sure she is comfortable amongst the crowd.
That ought to do it.

no i would like to have a guys opinion on what looks good then a girl b/c its guys that are to be impressed you know but if i know its horrible looking then i will not wear it but no you should definatley tell her what to wear.

No, just don't make it a demand....Tell her you think she looks really pretty, sexy, hot..etc..in something you think is would like to see her in.
