I cant seem to win, no matter who moves into my neighbourhood they always have a dog and they always seem to think it is acceptable and safe to allow them to run around off leash or walk that way when it is against the law, dangerous, unsafe and annoying for other dog owners who have to change their walking routes to avoid getting accosted by peoples loose dogs. Now as it stands in the past 3 years I have had to lose 4 different streets as walking routes because people who live there let their dogs run loose and they always come after me and my 2 dogs when I walk by... Now another person just moved in right across the street from me and they also let their dog off leash... I told them it was against the law and was an $80 fine but they just act like its stupid to require people to leash or confine their dogs... even though they have a perfectly fenced in yard that they could use they insist on letting the dog loose for walks and in the front yard. Why do people disregard leash laws?

how is it fun for me and my dogs? those loose dogs may stay in the yard when noone is walking by but how can you ensure your dog will not run after a cat or rabbit and get hit, or how do you make sure they dont get in a fight with other leashed dogs walking by?? It isnt more fun and you cant know for sure that your dog will never leave the yard.. it is dangerous for the dog, drivers, other dogs and people and it could be dangerous to other animals as well...

Oops... I do let my dogs run around and have fun and they are never in a kennel, its called a fenced in backyard. They are confined to an area for their safety and other people and dogs. I care too much for my dogs to let them run around unsupervised in the middle of a town with traffic and vehicles. When they need to run free I go to the bush where nobody else is around and there is nothing to hurt them.

Dogs should be on leashes or in a fence or the house period. If the dog needs excercise off the leash and you dont have a yard find a dog park. Not all people like dogs (shocking isnt it) They get hit by cars, they chase after small animals, they bark, they wonder in other yard and poop (then the neighbor gets mad and could possibly harm the dog) Dogs get lost or stolen. Respect your dogs and respect your neighbors, confine your pets.

This is such a good question. This family I know have dogs and I love the dogs, BUT they always let the dogs run around their house. They have been fined and yet, they continue on with allowing the pet to run loose. They even have a fenced in yard. I can't figure it out either. I know they Love their dogs tremendously. I firmly believe that the dog Lovers think their dogs are like them. They like to be Free !! I would never cause trouble for the family, as I Love dogs too. But as I gaze out of my window , I ask myself, WHY do they let that happen, again and again ??

Because most people think it is their world, and the rest of us just live in it. This is true with many things, as people continue to believe that their needs are more important.
In this case, almost every populated place I know of has a leash law, so most likely what they are doing is illegal. Every time you see their dogs out, call animal control. Tel them you know where the owner lives, and eventually they will get fined for it. If they get fined enough, they will stop. Or, the dog will "go away" (if you know what I mean...) ( I don't think that's right, because I have 3 of my own..but..)

Poeple do it because they don't care. Don't care about other people, don't care about their own dog, either. If they care enough about the dog, they wouldn't take chances with the dog. I have witnessed a dog go after a cat, got disoriented, ended up on a major highway and got run over. Sure, people think it won't happen to their dog. The bottom line is they think it's a risk they can take. Why not, if the dog dies, just buy another one.

Either the law is not enforced to the full extent or they are just too lazy to walk there dog and prefer them roaming the streets. Though what you should do is call the animal department and let them know that there dog is a threat to the community. You see, they will either confine to there leashes or otherwise there dogs will go kapofff!! Good luck with you dilemma!!

Well think about it. Would you want to be locked up in a kennel. Or stuck on a leash all day? People do that so they can give their dogs some freedom. it wouldn't be right to just have a dog kept on its lease for all of its life. And i agree with you on the dogs around the neighborhood. Some people don't watch their dogs good enough. That's how they end up everywhere.

I have 3 dogs that run loose...number one they've all be vaccinated and have tags on that prove it and they also have contact information as well.We cant put a fence up where we live (i would love too) bit we have so much cement around our house its nearly impossible to do unless we spend ALOT of money and i still live with my parents and they dont really want to. my dogs are very friendly and dont bother anyone and they dont chase cars either so really they are safe staying in their own yard they dont bark or run up to anyone when someone passes by only if you pull in the driveway will they let it be known that this is their house and their here.

Because many people are devoid of anything intellectually and think the whole world revolves around their whims and thoughts.

"But my puppy loves to be free! YAAAY!!!!!!" Oh, stop it.
