You will find the advantages in planning meals are many! First, saves you raking your brain at 4:45 to' what to make' syndrome, also you know you will already have everything you need to make the meal in the cupboard, fridge. You also will save a ton of dollars. (not having take out, not stopping at the store, not buying more than you need and still probably forgetting what you went in there to get) also, TIME....
I always plan ahead. I actually make enough so that we have leftovers.(I love them and married someone who doesn't complain--and loves leftovers also)
A sample menu would be something like this:
Scalloped potatoes and meatloaf
Tuna Noodle casserole
Leftover potatoes and meatloaf
Vegetable soup and rolls and salad
Leftover tuna noodle casserole adding peas to it
Homemade or ready to bake pizza and salad
Night out with the honey...
Asian stir fry with rice
You can use the leftovers to take to work for lunches. I always just think...potatoes, pasta, rice, something neutral etc.etc.,
Have fun, experiment and it won't be long before you discover some basic favorites that you fit in routinely!

Congratulations! In meal planning, take into consideration what who you're cooking for and what their preferences in food are. Plan on one "meatless" meal a week. It's always good to make something that will produce leftovers for one extra meal. Also, one evening of take-out or pizza might offer something different too. Round out each meal with a vegetable and type of starch to keep things healthy. And invest in a good crockpot!

I'm giving you suggestions of dinners that are simple and you can add your own variations--

- White Rice w/ Black Beans
- Chicken or Shrimp Stir Fry
- Turkey or Ham Sandwiches
- Spinach Lasagna
- Have breakfast for dinner! Do omelettes, make pancakes, or cook sausage/bacon with toast.
- Beef, chicken, or shrimp kabobs
- Hamburgers
- Vegetable Fried Rice
- Do a simple soup, salad, and bread dinner.
