I'm 16 and belong to the gun club at school we take longarms and shotguns in our trunks to school and meet at the range after class and my dad gave me a .38 handgun to use also but my question is what is the age to legally carry outside of vehicle or shooting range a handgun in Arizona? It would be open carry in a visible holster.

Bearing arms is a 2nd ammendment right. I don't know where you live that it's not allowed?

You can own a long arm at ANY AGE. You cannot purchase a handgun in Arizona until you are 18 (or 21 if from a dealer), however you can carry a handgun if it was given to you and if you have a note from your legal guardian allowing you to carry it.

Laws prohibiting minors to carryweapons shall not apply to:

To a minor who is 14, 15, 16, or 17 years of age and who is engaged in the following: (I'll just quote the one that applies to you)

13-3105 section 2c:

Lawful transportation of an unloaded firearm between the hours of 5:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. for the purpose of shooting events or marksmanship practice at established ranges or other areas where the discharge of a firearm is not prohibited.

A previously stated answer said of course you can it's our 2nd Ammendment right. I wish that were true but it's not. Hope it helps and good luck at the range!

I've been carrying since I was about 11, but I live in the mountains where we have to watch out for wild animals. How dangerous are the cities now?

According to your own gun laws you cannot be in possession of any firearm unless you are 18 years old. This means that outside of your home you cannot possess or transport your .38.

This is not the case if you are emancipated however.

After 18 it seems like you are in the clear.
