Dogs have pads on the bottom of their paws for a reason. Dogs have been domesticated from wolves and wolves live perfectly fine on their own without any 'clothes'. The only reason you feel the need to see these dogs 'dressed appropiatley' is because the media of dog fashion has sky rocketed, people want their dogs to look cute. I will admit, I have a Boxer pup and even though I live in the South, it tends to be around 30 degrees in the morning and at night, I have a little sweater for him when I take him on walks, but not shoes. His shoes are his pads. Dogs who have a short coat, I see the need to give them some protection, but as for other dogs, they are perfectly fine. ADD: If people want to dress up their dogs and treat them like people, then go adopt a baby or get knocked up. I love my dog to death, but I refuse to treat him as an equal to a child. He gets all the love he deserves, but he is still a DOG, not a human being, a D-O-G.

I dont own a small dog, but I have seen people with them and in the winter time when they take them outside they have sweaters on them. I guess you should probably call your local vet and ask if it is really necessary to clothe your dog

a sweater is good for a very small dog, especially the short haired ones. If the weather is very cold where you are, and you must walk the dog a distance, you might consider the little felt boots to protect the dog's pads from ice, and especially from salt, if you walk where they spread salt to melt the ice. That stuff can dry out a dog's pads, and make them crack, just like when your hands get chapped from the cold.

All a dog needs in winter time is their natural fur!

A sweater or little boots are good but just to let you know my dog doesn't like the little boots but if your dog does it is something good to keep them warm. They also have vests which would be good if you are going to be out for a long time.

Dogs don't need winter wear, they are fine with their hair.

I would get your new dog the following: a sweater and/or jacket, raincoat and booties (only for when it snows b/c generally small dogs can't take the ice on their paw pads).

My chi shakes when she's cold. We live in Houston. I can't imagine how she would take the cold elsewhere.

Anyway, I've had to buy her sweaters and a coat. They can get expensive so I recommend that you try Target and Petco. Their prices are reasonable.

a warm house! Seriously... short haired? We tend to coddle them a bit too much... most are happy with a good run (which will keep them warm anyway! If they start limping, favouring a paw, then take it back indoors...
