From what I have read, god has killed and enslaved millions of people. And he has concieved a child without a woman's consent. Should I strive towards his example of love and mercy?

Seeking to be like the creator of the universe is like sailing the ocean looking for the end the earth. People are surely mistaken when they liken their humanly beings to the Great Artchietect of the Universe. This absurd way of thinking has grown from seeds planted in peoples minds by the Bible. Which teaches people God walked as man named Jesus amongst us.
The day people believe fish can talk and horses can drive I can then somewhat understand why they would liken themselves to God. For the sake of arguement lets assume what you read is true in that God has killed and enlaved millions of people.Your confusion isnt caused by the teachings of glaring contradictions. Your confusion is caused by your humanly mind analyzing and trying to logically justify Gods actions as if he where Human. People should feel stupid when they think that within their mind they can make sense of God.
If you believe in God then your mind has choosen to believe in something that doesn`t make sense.
Does it make any sense to try to make sense out of what you mind has told you is real but doesnt make sense?

Sure but you must understand that everything God does is for our own good. He gives life and he has the right to take it away. Only man are inhuman to man. God did not participate...but his name was called into it. It depends upon your ideas of God...but mostly it is suggested you be the best you that you can be.

People are made from energy bits called

The energy is not The Force.
