(Deut.15:7-18
7 If there is a poor man among your brothers in any of the towns of the land that the LORD your God is giving you, do not be hardhearted or tightfisted toward your poor brother.
8 Rather be openhanded and freely lend him whatever he needs.

(Prov.22:9 A generous man will himself be blessed, for he shares his food with the poor. )
(Prov.28:27 He who gives to the poor will lack nothing, but he who closes his eyes to them receives many curses. )

(Matt.5:42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you. )
(Matt.6:1-4
1 "Be careful not to do your `acts of righteousness' before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
2 "So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.
3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,
4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. )

(Matt.25:34-40
34 "Then the King will say to those on his right, `Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.
35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,
36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'
37 "Then the righteous will answer him, `Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?
38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you?
39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'
40 "The King will reply, `I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.' )

"If your own full brother, or your son or daughter, or your beloved wife, or you intimate friend, entices you secretly to serve other gods, whom you and your fathers have not known, gods of any other nations, near at hand or far away, from one end of the earth to the other: do not yield to him or listen to him, nor look with pity upon him, to spare or shield him, but kill him. Your hand shall be the first raised to slay him; the rest of the people shall join in with you." (Deuteronomy 13:7-12 NAB)

check it out, luke 10:

25On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. "Teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?"
26"What is written in the Law?" he replied. "How do you read it?"

27He answered: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'[c]; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'[d]"

28"You have answered correctly," Jesus replied. "Do this and you will live."

29But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?"

30In reply Jesus said: "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him. 35The next day he took out two silver coins[e] and gave them to the innkeeper. 'Look after him,' he said, 'and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.'

36"Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?"

37The expert in the law replied, "The one who had mercy on him."
Jesus told him, "Go and do likewise."

basically, by helping others, especially when no one else wants to, we are making the choice of servitude. which is like saying 'im putting you above myself'. so many people would rather chose to place themselves higher regardless of how many people they hurt. by helping others you dish your own pride and chose rather to give whatever you can to them. cool dude

Matthew 25:31 "When the Son of man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne.
32
Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate them one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats,
33
and he will place the sheep at his right hand, but the goats at the left.
34
Then the King will say to those at his right hand, 'Come, O blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world;
35
for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me,
36
I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.'
37
Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see thee hungry and feed thee, or thirsty and give thee drink?
38
And when did we see thee a stranger and welcome thee, or naked and clothe thee?
39
And when did we see thee sick or in prison and visit thee?'
40
And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.'
41
Then he will say to those at his left hand, 'Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels;
42
for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink,
43
I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.'
44
Then they also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see thee hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to thee?'
45
Then he will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it not to one of the least of these, you did it not to me.'
46
And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."
