My friend and i were talking about "love". Alot of people we know that are in our age group are all in serious relationships. He believes that in your early twenties or if you're a college student - love is "overrated". What do you think?

I agree. You shouldn't be wasting your time in a serious relationship at that age and you should be learning life's lessons by trying new things. You will learn and grow as a person.

I wouldn't say overrated but I do think it should be a only a minor concern if you are thinking about settling down at that age. Love is grand but compatibility is another animal altogether and when you're in your mid twenties, you need to think about more than just how right now feels. Will people still have the same goals and values five years from now? Will a serious relationship alter one or both in the relationship to the point where they are no longer what attracted them to each other? There is so much more to a serious relationship that a fast lustful heartbeat.

Love is a blessing to receive and to give....regardless of your age. When you are young, impulsiveness, sexual chemistry and so on all can be mistaken for love and when relationships end, it can leave you wondering why you bothered in the first place. Love is a gift that doesn't "just happen". At least the real kind doesn't. Good people are hard to come by in this world today, so when you find one, you shouldn't let them go. When you get older, love takes on a whole new meaning and becomes even more prescious then before. You realize how finite we really are, how easy it becomes to lose someone, and how difficult it is to find love again. At 20-something, your friend is much to young to become cynical about love.....

yes because life can be brutal and so many changes take place in your 20s between 2 people. the chances of making it through all of that with the same partner is slim...

Love comes softly but when it comes you will know it and it will not be overrated. When it happens to your friend, he will not know himself anymore.
