I finally got around to installing Service Pack 2 and I just received a PowerPoint attachment in an e-mail. When I attempted to open it I received the following message:

"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. "Create an association in the Folders Option control Panel".

I have PowerPoint reader and never had a problem before today. Oddly enough, I was able to read that attachment by saving it to the desktop, but who wants to go through that extra work.

Something must have been altered to cause this with the installation of Service Pack 2. What's the solution? Thanks!

Actually, that's going to happen with almost all of your file types.

In updating the OS, you have erased the piece of data (don't want to call it a file) that says, "use this program to open these file types".

More than likely, the first .jpg or .gif you get will get you the same response.

You should only have to tell the system once which program to use for each file type.

If they sent it in the new format XLS that comes with 2007 you need to update your viewer. If not you may need to reinstall the viewer as Microsoft considers it not part of your office and therefore during the update it disabled it. Your Outlook is fine. Unless it came in as an .ink file then you need to go into Outlook, Tools, Options and change it to accept attachments.
