The IS is a smaller car than the ES. I think it looks more like it is for a bachelor guy the way it is designed. The ES is more of a classic sedan.

The IS 250 is a smaller sportier car than the ES350. The ES350 makes more power, but it is front wheel drive. The IS250 is sportier although it is less powerful and rear wheel drive. Lexus also offers an IS350 which makes 306 horsepower.

Lexus, like Mercedes, BMW and Audi wanted definitive way to identify each series of cars. Mercedes has the C, E, S & M classes, BMW has the 3,5,6,7&* series. Lexus has the L,G,S * I series of classes. Cadillac is following suite with the C & D classes of cars. This is just a European flavor of naming several classes of vehicles.

is250 is sportier, smaller and cheaper. is250 backseat has no leg room.
