Are they pronounced the same? I know there is also an Indian/Hindu name spelled "Karim" which is pronounced with a short "i". Will people be confused by the spelling?

Are you thinking of Hindi? I'm trying to distinguish btwn the Arabic/Muslim name Kareem, and the Hindu name Karim.

It may be pronounced by a short "i", but in reality it its the same thing. You might notice that the Indians who have that name are Muslims, and Indian Muslims mostly have Urdu/Arabic names.

The spelling shouldn't be confusing at all.

The language you mean is Hindi. Hindu is a person following the Hinduism religion. All Indians are not Hindu. But Hindi is the national language of India.

And theres no "Indian" language.

I'm not sure, as I dont study Hindu, but I study a similar language and know the pronunciation of several others.

I would think they would be pronunced the same as, and this is also common in languages like sanskrit and arabic, there are just different ways of transliterated (putting the letters from Hindu script to english letters) a certain sound.

I would choose Kareem because there is less chance to misspell it!
