If seen questions asking for government abolishment of religion, government ratings on religion. It seems that government would be obstructive to atheists that want to do whatever feels good. And why would an atheist want to be good to his fellow man? I would want to be a gangster, step on anyone I could kill cops, because they are opposing my will which is all I have

I'm not trying to paint atheists, im just saying how I would be. Why would you not be like that? If there is no consequence, why would you want to do things the hard way? I would take the easy road, if all the concequence is is jail. You can fight man, you cant fight god, thats my point. Why show restraint?

Then its a damn good thing you aren't an atheist because you wouldn't fit in. And what made you think we want to abolish religion? We want it separate from the government, but you can keep it if you feel the need...and not all of us are for government control. Some of us think our current government is being a little Orwellian and would like them to stop spying on everybody, among other things. You should be allowed to have freedom, but if you abuse it and become a "gangsta" then you are much closer to a modern satanist than anything else.
Why do most atheists behave? We do not want to hurt others. We do not want the hate and enemies and false friends that "gangstas" accumulate in their wake. I know the concept of wanting to help others with no inducement of heaven is probably pretty strange to a hard-core Christian, but it is who we are. You can hate us all you want and think we must be lying, and while this hurts us when we hear it on this forum, it does not make what they say true.

This question, and its explanation, makes no sense whatsoever. Atheists are not the same as Hedonists (people who do whatever feels good). Atheists are not without morality and law. It is only because people blindly believe that Judeo-Christian laws are the basis for all civilization that you might think that there can be no law without it. What you don't understand is that there are universal truths, and society does not work without them. You don't need to believe in God or Allah or Buddha or anyone to know that killing and theft and rape are wrong. Atheism, and please let's hope this is the last time this needs to be said... Atheism is NOT immoral or irrational, nor is it "the religion of science", nor is it Satanism. It is a rejection of religion, especially organized religions. It does not reject law, reason, proof through verifiable science, or humanity. It DOES NOT reject people who are religious, it just rejects the religion. Not the people, just the beliefs. Isn't that simple enough to understand? Can we stop the attacks now? Please?

I'm an atheist, and I believe our government needs to be more concerned with maintaining the environment, helping those who can't help themselves and keeping an eye on big business to keep them from stealing money from their workers and flushing retirement funds. Beyond that, aside from preventing a religious takeover of the country, government should not get involved in religious affairs.
And just for the record: I've been a nurse for 30 years, taking care of people the so-called "Christians" routinely turn their holier-than-thou backs on. So don't even go there.

Atheists do not generally support terrorist activities, Prophet. I will not say that none will, that would be an overgeneralization.
Speaking of overgeneralization, only a few radical atheists believe that the iron fist is a solution to the problem of living without faith or the freedom to do so. Unfortunately, few mature atheists will bother to argue logical fallicies.
Atheists are able to be moral. Some are moral, some are not.

Most atheists are libertarian and are not interested in an intrusive government.
Atheists want to be good to their fellow man because we've evolved empathy and sympathy. A higher species wouldn't survive natural selection very well if it didn't.

"I would want to be a gangster, step on anyone I could kill cops, because they are opposing my will which is all I have."
it is obvious that you are an amoral person. there is something wrong with someone who feels that it would be ok to "kill cops" just because there is no authority telling him not to.
i would suggest reevaluating what you feel is important and why you feel that way. the rest of the athiests and i will continue being kind and just to others because its morally right and not because some ancient book tells us to.

Why are believers so much for government control according to their beliefs? (see, I can make rash, unfounded generalizations too!)
It seems to me that most atheists simply want to be left alone, especially from religious people trying to tell them what to do and how to live their lives.
Will the generalizations ever end on this site?

First, most atheists are libertarians, which means they advocate as little government control as possible.
Second, your assertion that you are morally superior to atheists is preposterous. We have our own morals... without the bullying threat of eternal damnation or the "God forgives everything" get out of jail free card.

I think you're generalizing. It is Christians who are pushing for government control: marraige, Sunday laws, etc. Most atheists have a live and let live philosophy.
