Yes and we are even aware that 4 Australian soldiers received the Victoria Cross the highest decoration for valor for actions during the Vietnam war.

Low key insurgencies are not person-friendly to suppress. A small type of terrorists unchecked may reason a superb volume of harm with a touch attempt. and they have the intuitive. till they're typically tracked down and arrested or killed they're waiting to %. and decide the time and position the position they strike. To counter this adaptability it takes a cop (or a soldier) on each street nook to guard the inhabitants. meaning there rather some troops, maximum of them status round no longer doing a lot of something, to grant protection and defeat the insurgents. this may (and typically does) take a lengthy-time period dedication (robotically about ten years).

Absolutely, IIRC 1/RAR, and 22 SAS from ground forces, and two squadrons from RAAF (flying Canberras/helos). They were in the I Corps area, working Counterinsurgency.
By all accounts great troops, then. Still great troops, no one better to be working with!
BTW, the Koreans, and PI also sent contingents.

It wasn't so much that Australia sent them, but many of them as well as Canadians and Brits came to the USA and enlisted for service. Last time I was in Sydney I met a bunch and we had a hell of a drunk that night.

Yes, absolutely. So did New Zealand and South Korea.
There are a lot of things younger, and some older, Americans don't know anything about. That's public education for you.

Your hole generation is ignorant of this and much more. The Aussie's are good friends of the US, they have always been there in time of need. Vietnam is probably one they would like to forget, like so many of us.

I knew that. They had a sort of head start on us, because they fought in that area before. (or was it Malaysia?) I can't remember.
Aussies kick mucho a*s. The Canadians stayed away from Nam.
We love Australians, just leave that vegemite at home.
G'day
