If I were cutting your hair, I would probably use a 2 on your sides faded with a number 3 and use scissors on top to give you a fade. Fades are very popular. If you want your bangs on a little longer side, ask for a Caesar cut. Or you can have them use a razor so that the bangs aren't so blunt looking. From what your picture looks like, You could probably add some highlights as well to make you look even younger. You don't look in your 30's, but changing the way you get your cut and maybe even having a few highlights may take off a few years too.

I say if you like your hair the way it is just keep it trimmed up but keep it the way you want it. If you like the way your mates have their hair then go ahead and do what you like. Short looks good on men who are still young but getting older. It hides age and also keeps you looking young.
One of the strongest trends in hair for 2005 will be a return to short and sharp hairstyles for men. Short hair makes a comeback after almost ten years but this time round it will be sported by both younger and older men. There are, however, many variations within short hair and each has its own influences. With practicality and easy maintenance being the hallmark of modern-day styling, more and more men are opting to keep their hair short and simple.
Most of today's male celebrities have taken the shorter route, with all-around short, "neat" hair. It's no fuss, and might simply require some pomade or a similar grooming product to give it a bit of style. It all depends on how short you want to go, there's short and then there's the almost-shaven, almost-crew cut - both are acceptable and both are going to be fashionable. In fact, men in their 30s who sport short hair have the advantage of distracting attention from the natural process of balding or receding hairlines, both of which become quite evident over time, specially if you have been sporting medium-length or longer hair in your late 20s and early 30s.
The Crew
In the late '50s and early '60s the cropped hairstyle was common among pre-teens and teenagers, worn by the followers of American pop culture. The style, initially a semi-crew, evolved into a 'Roman' look, but was out of fashion from about 1963 to 1967, until skinheads revived it. The name comes from its popularity with American college rowing crews of the 1930s and 1940s. In 2005, this will translate into a popular look for the 16 to 21-year-old age group. It takes no longer than ten minutes to achieve at a salon. You first get a clean, almost one-and-a-half inch buzz all around the head, leaving the centre of your head with a crop that can either be left as is to give a slightly Roman influence or styled with a bit of hard wax or pomade to give it a more modern look.
The Military
Contrary to popular belief, the crew cut and the military cut are both variations of short hair but are not the same. The military look, unlike the crew cut, has an almost shaved buzz all around: about four inches upwards from the ears. It is believed that when wearing headgear, soldiers of the US Navy and Army were asked not to have hair that would interfere with the proper fit of the headgear and so the military look as we know it today was born. In the civilian world, the look works well with both sporty and formal looks and is ideal for both younger and older men. Many men in their late 30s tend to think that going in for the military cut gives them a younger, more sporty and fit look. We agree.

Before America had enough money of its own, Spanish Rials were legal tender in America (1 Rial = 1 Dollar). People used to cut the Rials into eight pieces and use them for change. The pieces were called "bits;" and two "bits" equaled one-quater of the Rial (or 25 cents). This practice of cutting Spanish money into eight pieces is also where we get the old pirate saying of "Pieces of Eight." Hope this answer helps.

I think a buzz cut looks good on any guy. Young, old , fat, any shaped face. That's just my opinion though I think it's really appealing on every guy. Plus it makes you look sporty and it doesn't look like you're trying too hard to look good.

www.matrix.com has a section of men's haircuts with detailed photos.
It's hard to recommend a haircut for you because there are so many factors to consider, such as the texture of your hair, your face shape and your personal style.
