I had an abscess tooth and the dentist perscribed clindamycin hcl 300mg caps but i can't take pills and have very serious reservations about the medicine after reading all the warnings. My dentist says just take it anyways but how can I get a different perscription. I don't want the infection to get worse. I did have the tooth pulled. I don't take any kind of medication except for childrens tyenol when I need to. Any ideas?
My reservations include: only in capsule form, warning not to sit for 30 minutes after taking it, can cause severe intestional bleeding even after you finish taking it, diarrhea, etc...

Any ideas would be very helpful.

Update:
Talked with the dentist, he will not perscribe something else --says it is in my mind and that I should take it anyways. Long story short--no thank you. Before my wisdom tooth was pulled, it would abcess once a month or so and then go away. Will this infection do the same? I don't want to make it worse, but i don't want to kill myself either. I have only had antibiotics 3 times in my life and don't take anything stronger than childrens tyenol. Any suggestions on what to do now? I don't have a family doctor or insurance and spent $70 on the clindamycin hcl perscription.

OPERAPHAN...,
YOU NEED TO FIND OUT IF CLINDAMYCIN IS AVAILABLE IN LIQUID FORM. ASK THE PHARMACIST. OTHERWISE, TELL THE DENTIST TO PRESCRIBE A DIFFERENT ANTIBIOTIC SUCH AS AMOXICILLIN (UNLESS YOU ARE ALLERGIC TO PENICILLIN).
THE MED INFO PACKAGE USUALLY DESCRIBES ALL THE POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS WHICH MAY/OR MAY NOT HAPPEN WHENTAKING THE MED IT DOES NOT MEAN THAT IT WILL HAPPEN.
PS.UNLESS YOU ARE A VERY LARGE PERSON I WOULD HAVE PRESCRIBED 150mg CLINDAMYCIN

Now, you are just being silly. The side effects are SO rare. All medications have the risk of some kind of adverse reactions, but the occurrence is so rare, that you CAN take it. Clindamycin is the BEST antibiotic for oral infections--it's always the first line treatment.

I'm not familiar with this particular medication, but would think the dentist can write you a scrip for an antibiotic without such dire warnings, if that is what the medicine is for.

Consult your family physician.
