The easiest and best looking costume at this point would be to rent one. If you really need to make it, a full, floor length drab black or gray skirt with a simple matching top will do, then cover your shoulders with a small white shawl or make an authentic looking simple white collar and cuffs. Check out the site Recollections for ideas on what the cuffs and collar should look like. You can actually get patterns at any well stocked sewing store, and if you already have a plain dress or skirt and top you can use, it won't take you very long to make just a collar. Jane was a very plain girl, so simple is key. No jewelry at all, black tights, black ankle boots if you have them, and of course the hairstyle. If you have long hair, that's half your costume right there. Part your hair severly in the middle. Part off the front 1/3 of your hair and hold it in a clip. Pull the rest in a bun, using lots of hair spray. Take out the clip, take the two remaining front wisps, and loop the gracefully over your ears before securing into the bun.
