I do things that I would never even think of doing when I'm sober. I wake up the next day and people tell me things that I did and then I regret ever getting drunk. I like to be happy drunk but not to the point where I black out and don't know a single thing that I did. Whats my problem?

Drinking affects our ability to make decisions and lowers our inhibitions so that you are likely to make a decision to do something that you would never decide to do if you were not drunk. That's why you are regretting it. Since I know you are not going to stop drinking I'll tell you that your second problem is that you are drinking too much. That's why you are blacking out and have no memory of the events. So moderate your drinking. I too had to do this myself. And it has brought be a lifetime of good choices. Limit yourself to one alcoholic drink every hour and half to two hours (try to get yourself there). The way to do this is to have an alcoholic drink (get a light buzz), and then have a non-alcoholic drink (water with lime in it is a great one cuz it rehydrates you) - but it can be anything, a coke, a juice, whatever. Then have another alcoholic drink. You'll be having a good time by now, you will be a lil' buzzed - nothing astonishing - but you will be aware and smart and you won't make a bad decision and you'll remember the night fondly in the morning without a hangover or puking. Good luck and be safe.

Hmmm... from what I can ascertain here, you don't seem to have just one problem, but rather 2!

Firstly, your friends.... I think it is time that you go out into the world and seek new friends. Your friends shouldn't remind you of the stupid things that you did when you are drunk, your friends should be just as drunk as you and doing those stupid things with you. Tell your current friends that they are deadwood and need to be dropped in order to make available the space in your life for your new drinking buddies.

Secondly, have you considered NOT actually sobering up? Then you don't need to feel those nasty feelings of shame and remorse. If you feel like your are become a little too lucid, you should crack open another bottle of Jim Beam, Johnny Walker or better yet, induldge in some Absynth. Take some inspiration from a famous Absynth drinker like Van Gogh, do you think that he regretted cutting his ear off when he was pissed on the stuff?

Of course not, and you know why, because his mates were cheering for him as he did it, and when it started to hurt a little he just drank more...

See, your problem isn't so bad after all, just make those two little changes and you can live like Karen in that show Will and Grace! Drunk from day to day living in a boozy, pickled bliss

Been there, Had fun though.

Here is your problem.

Medically, You have taught your body to be able to absorb more alcohol then your brain can handle. This usually comes from drinking on a regular basis.

What I had to do was stop drinking for a while. It got to the point after 2 beers I was blacking out and no one even knew I was drunk the entire time and I wouldnt remember anything from the night before.

It can get scary.

well, when you're drunk, you believe that you are the funniest person in the world. you believe that everything you do, people will be ok with, and you can't do anything wrong. being drunk is fun! being sober the next day isnt.

learn to control your drinking. make a limit, say, 4 beers at one sitting, and stick with it, its the only way you wont get so drunk you black out.

I think everybody goes through that, just start eliminating shots,or setting a limit for yourself.I have the same problem,I'm not really a jackass when I drink but I do say and do things I wouldn't while sober, but I limit myself to one sometimes two shots when I go out and sense then,I still get a nice buzz, and I don't feel like a moron the next morning!

You really are blond...

I think your problem is drinking (however obvious it is). Maybe stop drinking or if you must drink limit how much you drink so you don't get drunk. You're not the first person to do crazy things while drunk.

Are you a housewife?

Most people do things drunk that they wouldn't sober.

The simple answer is just don't drink so much that you lose control. Get to learn your limits, then you will stop doing stupid things.

Whoa, tough crowd, but they have a point. You really need to learn your limits with alcohol and not go so far. Drink slower and make sure you eat before hand. This may help to not get so drunk and do random things.

You're a drunk. There are no happy drunks!!! Try to limit how many drinks you have. If are drinking to the point where you can't remember - you've got a problem.
