In college we called this "zoning out" It was really quite amazing. This room full (6 - 10) college aged girls with the TV and/or radio on sitting there in complete silence. It kind of wigged out a room mate once.
For me my vision would blur then all would be black except the brightest thing in my field of view and it would be dim. Breathing would slow and to some extent I didn't hear what was going on in the room. No thoughts really, although occasionally a thought would start to enter. Eventually we would all sort of come out of it and remain quiet and still until everyone came out of it. Then we would either watch TV or go back to our rooms or something else. It was sort of nice to be in a room with other people and yet not have to be "on" and pay attention to anything or talk or really anything. At some point I sort of stopped doing that. I chalk it up to not being as stressed. Although I still pray regularly, and at the time I didn't.

Distractions during meditation are the leading cause many people choose to stop meditating.
But when you are meditating and are at times easily distracted, gently bring your attention back to the breath - if the type of meditation you are practicing is Mindfulness Meditation, The Mindfulness of Breathing.
Actually, in any type of meditation, distractions will occur, but we need to treat our mind, with patience, and with gentleness, as a mother would treat her baby, or young child.
Meditation builds up a person's ability to stay focused, to concentrate better, and brings forth insight, and a inner stable mental peace.
Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn PhD. practices and teaches Mindfulness Meditaton in his stress reduction clinic, and he, along with thousands of Cognitive Therapists, and Medical Doctors around the world have proven the effectiveness of Mindfulness Meditaton to greatly increase a person's Cognitive abilities, especially to erradicate anxieties, stress, depression, and it has been proven to improve a person's memory, attitudes, and outlook on life.
Keep it up. Be patient, kind and gentle with your mind, for it creates happiness, peace, and purpose for your life.

Yes, it happens all the time, and it actually means you're doing just fine. When you "freak" say to yourself mentally and do it gently, "thinking" or "distraction" and return to the breath. You won't astral project, trust me... that is if you are who you appear to be and not actually a Buddha...
Also you CAN blink... just don't get distracted by it, if you do, simply say to yourself "distraction" or if you swallow, "swallowing" and return to the breath.

Do you know what astal projection is? Its leaving the body and being in spirit, which in 90% of the cases is formed by a demonic link. What you experienced is domic assult and attemps to infiltrate your being.
God severd the link to spirit after the fall of man becuase the spirit is powerfull and when used by corrupted man can do horrible things.
The veil you saw is spoken of in the bible my friend.

When is the last time that you had a comprehensive physical exam? I'd bet it's a long time ago. It may be more medical than spiritual. Stop the meditation stuff until you get yourself checked out. You owe it to yourself.

You should get your eyes checked. Seriously, it's because you've had them closed for a long time and you have problems focusing. Same thing happens to me when I wake up.

Another recommendation to go get a check up, and soon. (I too have meditated for decades.)

Um, no. I have never experienced this and I have been praying and meditating for decades.
Listen, if this continues, please go see a Doctor. This may not have anything to do with the meditation. It may be a medical condition.

Try blinking, or just keeping your eyes shut. It does help.
