If a casino opened nearby:

The benefits would be extra revenue to the government in the short term.

The costs would be people either saving less, or return less to the economy in the form of retail spending. Casinos attract other vices like prostitution. Casinos are always a shelter for organized crime, because they can "wash" money.

The costs do not officially outweigh the benefits, but neither does a candy bar. However, you also have to consider people's freedom to do what the they want with their money. While throwing their money away on gambling is forbidden, it's perfectly acceptable in society to spend money at other non-beneficial outlets. Besides a bar or strip club, money can be wasted on designer clothes which provide no more warm or utility than clothes at Walmart which cost 1/10th of the price. Large TVs could be eliminated because larger TV transmitts no more information than a smaller one. In addition to price, perhaps the government could start limiting the quantity of items... girls could only own 5 pairs of shoes (instead of 35), because more would be unnecessary.

well that depends on whom u ask if u ask a casino worker they will tell u that the cost don't outweigh the benefits because of the fact it helps the community by producing jobs but if u look at it from another point of view gambling was one of the main reasons the mob was formed to get the debt owed to the casinos back so if we don't have the casinos we don't have unwanted violence all in all that question depends on who u ask

Depends on wherer they are located. In urban areas the costs do not out weigh the benefits.

i think gambling should be legalized. it makes no sense to why there isnt. money is money and it just ends up goiing back to the government anyway, so what's the big deal?
