This will be my first trip to Kauai and any Hawaiian islands in Is late March.

Is it a good time to visit?

Also, please provide any recommendations on:
- where to stay
- what to see
- where to eat

Thanks in advance for your time and suggestions :)

You are in for a treat my dear. Kauai is my favorite island, I have gone there for the last 5 years and am going again in less than 2 weeks. I'm not sure what kind of accommodations you like, but I like renting vacation rentals or bed & breakfast way better than sterile motels. The good thing about vacation rentals is that you can cook in them. One of the biggest expenses there is eating every meal out.

Also, what part of the island might you like? The west side is dry and sunny. The south side (Poipu) is also sunny but slightly more lush. The east side (Kapaa) is wetter but a nice location for easy access to the whole island. The north side (Hanalei, Princeville) is the wettest of all, but lush, lush, lush. It is my favorite!

It would pay to go to the bookstore and buy the latest "Ultimate Kauai Guidebook". Accept no substitutes.

Book your own vacation rental. This is actually fun! My two favorite websites are www.VRBO.com and GreatRentals.com. On Great Rentals you can put in your price range and area of the island and get replies from owners. Don't be shy about giving a lowball $ amount. I got many replies in my lowball request and finally booked one of them and was quite happy with it.

The last 2 years I have been staying at the Magic Sunrise in Wailua . www.magicsunrise.com. Do check out the website. She has cottages and rooms in the main house, with a nice kitchen, pool, etc. no tv. But it is peaceful and has a gorgeous view of the Wailua river. I stay in the Pele room at $55 a night and am quite content.

what to see....Ke'e Beach for sunsets, and also if you like hiking, that is where the Kalalau trail to the Napali coast starts. End of the road, north shore.
Queen's Bath is a MUST out of Princeville. Directions are in the guidebook I told you about.

The Hindu temple up on Kuamoo road out of Wailua (near Kapaa) is free. It is under construction and there are guided tours once a week. You would not believe how beautiful the property is....it is like a dream.
I have enjoyed the Blue Dolphin catamaran sunset cruise twice. If you aren't prone to getting sea sick I think that is the best "activity" the island offers. A sunset view of the Napali Coast, and really good Mai Tais just can't be beat.
I didn't care for the helicopter tour. It was over too soon, and if you arent' lucky enough to get a front seat, it is hard to really see anything.

To eat........in Hanalei, I like the Hanalei Gourmet. In Wailua (near Kapaa) I like the Cafe Coco, they also have pretty good entertainment in the evening and it has a funky island style atmosphere, decent prices, mostly vegetarian. The Blossoming Lotus in Kapaa is very expensive and very vegetarian. Desserts are do-able there and yummy. Mermaids Cafe in Kapaa is more within my budget and VERY good.

I also know of a cheap, private car rental guy. I don't have his number handy but you can email me for it if interested. Depending on how many days you want it you can rent for about $20 a day with no other surprise fees or high pressure add-ons from the airport car rentals. The cars are just ugly enough to make you look like a local. But they run good.

If you have any other questions, just ask me. I love sharing what I know of that magical island.

Kauai's my favourite island. force to Waimea Canyon and the Kalalau Valley Lookout on the west edge of the island. See Opaekaa Falls on the lookout for the time of from the Wailua River on the east edge. Take a ferry down Wailua River, which regularly might want to pass to the wide-spread Fern Grotto, yet might want to nevertheless be closed by using flood harm (examine that). The ferry holiday continues to be well worth it in spite of the undeniable fact that, in spite of in case you do not pass to the Fern Grotto. There are primary Kayaking excursions down the Wailua River, depending in case you imagine your children are as a lot because it. there's a excursion that you'll be able to kayak up the river, hike about a mile to a waterfall - - very captivating. The hike is uncomplicated too. you do not choose the ferry in case you try this. The north shore is likewise very captivating. inspect Princeville and golfing there in case you are able to. an inexpensive and basically as relaxing golfing direction is the Kukuiolono golfing direction. on the north shore, supply up at Hanalei Bay (the surf might want to correctly be too extreme to swim, yet its worthing preventing at). The Na Pali Coast is a might want to-see, in spite of the undeniable fact that the line ends on the starting up of it. the in uncomplicated words thanks to work out it really is through helicopter, a rafting adventure excursion, or by potential of trekking. yet another excursion i might want to point for the children is through Kauai Backcountry adventure, its a tubing adventure by potential of waterways that were hand dug in 1870... only a practise. have relaxing!

I haven't been there in 20 years. I remember the helicopter ride being great.
